The bottom line remains that our passing game is one of the worst in the NFL and all teams have to do to stop the Jets is stack the box and shut down the run because we are not able to complete enough passes to keep defenses honest. In order to for the Jets to be successful we need to dramatically improve the passing game. The number one piece of that puzzle is Sanchez improving substantially because at this point he is not a very good NFL QB. He would be the first to admit this obvious fact. Its hilarious that some are unwilling to admit this glaring deificiency. The Statistics demonstrate what is obvious from watching the games: Our passing game is one of the worst in the NFL. The question is how do the Jets improve the passing game to at least become an average passing team? The development of Sanchez into an average level NFL QB is obviously one way to do help achieve that goal.
The troubling thing to me was that he had sooooooooo long to throw the football. That scares me. What's happening? Zero separation, or really poor ability to see the field?
There were 4 different scenarios where the network replayed the down and every receiver wasn't open. I couldn't believe it. No one knows how to come back to the ball? So I'd say its evenly Sanchez and the WRs. But that means the playcalling is shit. High percentage throws= success. I don't see high percentage throws. I see posts over the middle and nothing short. Nothing Rookie QB friendly.
I suppose, but if your QB has 8 seconds to throw, as an OC you are clearly doing something right. And you have two supposedly good receivers, plus a TE weapon in the making? With that much time, pretty much every NFL pass play should work. I don't see why he was throwing the ball away so much.
Maybe the receivers are covered because we're running a conservative offense, by order of Rex. Maybe there aren't any high percentage throws because there's no such thing as a "high percentage throw". Sure, you can run dumps to the flat, but Leon is gone for the season. You could try running come-backs or hooks but those routes are being covered because defenses tend to play close to the line against the Jets. We've tried a few screens but those have been covered well. Ever since the oakland game, we've had ultra-conservative plays calling. Sanchez isn't a rookie anymore. It's good to commit to the run, but we need to open up the play book.
This isn't true. We opened up the Jacksonville game with a bomb on the first play. We've opened up the offense a bunch of times to no particularly good effect. Really the Jets have just done a rotten job of integrating a rookie QB into the game plan. That's why they're probably not going to the playoffs.
So a few plays every game makes you believe that we're opening up the offense? You must be one of those that think Schotty has been running an offense that is too complicated because we're running 5 trick plays every game. Here's the bottomline: We're leading the league in rushing attempts, and leading the league in % runs on first down. That's conservative play.
There is little to no spacing in the WRs routes. It's difficult enough for Sanchez and all of his inexperience to adjust to the NFL; compound it with ineffective, cluster-fucked routes, and this is the Passing Offense that results.
A high percentage throw is a slant route. I hardly see them. I hardly see comeback routes. This team does need a Stuckey or a dump off RB again, and they are trying with Woodhead but he's not enough. The Shiny toy in Edwards has done wonders for the running game, but Sanchez has regressed since he's been here. That has turned me against Edwards and the trade. It was a knee jerk, win now move. I hate "win now." Its fake, a farce... total bullshit. You win when you build a team and when the pieces are in place you make that push. You don't continuously plug in FAs and trades to make your team better. It happens through 8-11 pick drafts. Good drafts, like 06. The Jets have had under 15 drafted rookies since 06. That's not how its done. Sure, the starters are good, but its a house of cards. I'd also like to see different formations so defenses don't go "oh, no shit they are running play "X."" Maybe a formation where either run or pass could happen, not the obvious jumbo formation or emptyback shotgun. Something has to change. But its going to take next offseason. He has to work all march and april with the WRs and get the timing down. Everyone has to be there. Keller, Edwards, Cotch. I really want a coordinator who shares the opinions and philosophies that Rex has. Rex interfering half way through the season means something is very wrong with Schotty. A color coding system should never be put in place if the OC is doing his job.
Remember the Pats game pick 6 with Cotch and Clowney 5 feet from one another? I couldn't believe a play was designed that way.
We've run a good amount of slants. I can remember a few that went to Cotchery and Edwards. We seem to run a lot of drags underneath clearouts, but we do run slants.
not like they did in september. After his big first month they took the training wheels off and got rid of check down options from trade/injury. Things have to adjust. Schotty sucks at adjusting, unlike the other side of the football.
Add in homoerotic, and you would have posted the kind of "substantive" post Johnny would very much approve of. Well, for a certain unfortunately large percentage of Jet Fandom, everybody on the team goes right under the bus but Sanchez, and those who think that Sanchez is the main factor holding the team back are to be addressed as by vins here. Add in a few helpful comments like Don's that this sort of thing is not a personal attack, and the discussion here goes into the toilet, where it will likely stay for several weeks. Anyone who wants to can look at the situation with clear eyes. But some choose otherwise. Ftr I have never said there are not other problems with the team. No team is perfect. But it is unrealistic to expect perfection throughout the rest of the team to overcome Sanchez's huge and many mistakes. Dumping on Clemens, who led the team to a win and did not turn the ball over at all, does not excuse Sanchez. At some point in the off season the discussion here might improve, but until then I don't see much point in posting the facts, which the overly emotional and defensive here call half assed without answering with fact based arguments rather than whining catcalls. That really about covers it.
It really is amazing that the conversations in here are almost identical to the ones Lions' fans are having with Stafford. The one thing that I've noticed with Mark is his tendency to dance a little too much in the pocket. It's probably nothing more than a confidence issue at this point, but it is something that he needs to control before he can begin to make the next step. Interceptions, fumbles, missed throws and things of that nature are to be expected in not only a young QBs rookie season, but sometimes well into their second and third. I don't see why or how you can put this on Sanchez. He isn't the one who decided to go into the season without a viable veteran QB on the roster.
See spoken from an outside viewpoint- Why can't the Sanchez haters see this? Fatcessa actually had a good point. It hurts Sanchez more being that he is on a win now team and not a team that is growing with him. This obviously adds more pressure and why most of the focus is on him and without just cause all the blame is on him as well. Thank You Lions Fan, and accept my my condolences. You Jet fans think we have it bad imagine being a Lions fan. No Super Bowls and only 14 playoff appearances since 1934. Yet this fan speaks more rational-
You make a good point. My feeling is that this is exactly what we saw coming. With a rookie coming in, I expected this, I just didn't expect it to be so crushing. What I did not expect was that Mark's moments of trouble would be so perfecting opportune to make moments as excruciating as possible. The 5 picks in a home game against Buffalo when we were domingating them with the run. The 3 picks and overall bad play 3 days ago at home against Atlanta in a game that would have positioned us remarkably well for the playoffs had we won. It's really been a perfect storm of shittyness this year. I wanted to see more improvement by now. Even if the improvement wasn't of a physical nature, perhaps it would be mental. I guess the game is still moving so fast for him them decision making goes out the window 2 seconds after the snap. I still think he shies away from contact, and that's a reason he seems to feel pressure that isn't there. When the best QBs step up into the pocket, they remain relaxed and moving their heads. When Mark steps up, it's as if stepping up means throw the ball asap...or scramble. I know....rookie stuff....but when I got my playoff hopes up and watched on Sunday, it was tough, By the way, does anyone else think that we need to use more play-action roll-outs instead of just plain drop-back PA? Mark seems comfortable outside the pocket scanning the field...
I don't think most fans, myself among them, expected miracles this year. If you did, you are delusional. I also don't think any rational fan is talking about giving up on the kid. But what is concerning is that we wanted to see some kind of steady improvement - some slow blossoming that would hopefully show what the future would hold. That is what has people upset - he seems to be going backwards. Making the same mistakes over and over. Getting jumpier and jumpier in the pocket. This is what is causing raised eyebrows. And just like calling him a bust at this point is ludicrious, it is just as crazy to coronate him, from what we've seen, as the the can't miss qb of the future. The jury is still most definetly out.
