Not sure if I eve spelled his last name right....Matt Cavanaugh...This guy was brought in as qb coach at beginning of the year by Ryan. He was former Offensive Coordinator under Billick, and Ryan specifically brought him in as the QB coach. So apparently he isn't having much luck with Sanchez......I know Schotty is getting much of the blame, but where is this guy and why isn't he ever mentioned?
The OC calls the plays. He's the one who deserves most of the blame. I'm not blaming dennis Thurman for revis' dropped INTs
I never mentioned the playcalling in my statement. I am talking quarterback development, being able to lookoff defenders, not lock in on one receiver, etc. What is a qb coach supposed to do? Please explain.
Well this is the great resume from our qb coach...... Matt Cavanaugh joins the Jets after four seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2007, The Sporting News named Cavanaugh the top offensive coordinator in the Big East as Pitt produced its first 1,000-yard rusher in seven years (LeSean McCoy, 1,328 yards). In 2006, Pitt’s scoring average of nearly 32 points per game was its highest in 25 years. ■ Cavanaugh last coached in the NFL as offensive coordinator for Baltimore (1999-2004), where he was on the same staff as Rex Ryan. The Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV after the 2000 season when the offense featured a rushing attack that produced a franchise-record 2,199 yards. ■ Before the Ravens, Cavanaugh was the offensive coordinator for the Bears (1997-98) and quarterbacks coach for the 49ers (1996) and Cardinals (1994-95). ■ He began his coaching career at Pitt as tight ends coach in 1993 for Johnny Majors.
I'm not expecting 20 TDs and 12 INTs. But, hey, maybe 12 and, say, 13 wouldn't be killer. You can't have twice as many turnovers as TDs and expect to win! That's 100% unacceptable, for any player, at any level
OK then, lets make him the scapegoat. The QB coach is now officially the reason our season went down the gurgler.
The lack of progress Sanchez has shown throughout the season suggests either the QB coach isn't helping Sanchez understand and fix his mistakes or Sanchez cannot fix his mistakes. Take your pick at which you'd try changing first, Sanchez or the QB Coach.
considering Ryan's been telling him to slide since TC, I'm going to say that Sanchez has a lot of growing up to do on the field. I'm not surprised. He played 16 games in college.
Much luck w/ what? we have a good ROOKIE QB, this is NORMAL for a rookie. He's had a good year for a rookie and if it was all about the QB we'd be 11-3 right now.
Could that be because he actually IS a rookie QB? If 75% is using this excuse it might be because it's the one that makes more sense...
I think that's the main argument... the OC is calling plays that don't fit our personnel... everyone on offense just looks confused.
