this is it in a nutshell....

I'll say it once....I'll say it 10,000x .....this year is a transitional year for the Jets....rookie HC, rookie QB...there's gonna be some growing pains.

Mick is right...the ST is killing us right now too......but to think this team is a playoff team at this moment is ridiculous.....we're a good season or two away....Sanchez needs to get aclimated to the game flow at this level. If Sanchez is playing like this in year 3...then sound the alarm.

For now....let's just cheer on the Jets for the rest of the season....and talk about the draft/FA.......and write this year off to our new HC and QB getting much needed experience.

I've been saying that since august. And yet you and maybe 3 other people said it too.

its amazing how no one gets it.

Its not rebuilding, its not a "win now" year, its a transitional year.

    yep.

the funny thing is...it's not "rocket science". People who follow the NFL and take a real interest in the game....understand this.

I don't know whether to laugh or be embarrased of our fanbase....I truly don't.

People saw what happened last year in ATL and BAL and think it is the norm in the NFL. Also, Mangini's miraculous rookie season with the Jets doesn't help.

That is so very true... I remember when we were losing game after game many posters came back to reality saying they would have been ok with going 8-8 this year... and we are exactly on pace with that but everyone is fucking crazy!

With no Leon, no Jenks, rookie HC and QB we still played really solid football and didn't get into the playoffs for committing stupid mistakes... but not playing bad!

With those guys coming back, more experience for HC and QB, hopefully a new OC (I had to slide it in here :p) and without AS many stupid mistakes as we had this year we can be a dominant team :).

Losses like today hurt but shit happens... and why might just want to get rid of all of it this season so we learn from our mistakes and correct them starting from next year which will be a win now year and not a transitional one.

And that's the problem...nobody can get past ATL or Balt's seasons last year.....all of a sudden the bar is raised.

    Fuckin' ridiculous.

Agreed on the transitional year. I said a while back I would be happy with 8-8 or 9-7 - playoffs of not. To much change on this team.

With Dearth, he's been with the team the whole decade and has done a great job. He had a couple bad games this year but I don't think he should be the main scape goat because of a couple bad games. The long snapper job is thankless and way under the radar on peoples concerns. He's been solid for 9 years - I can give him a pass.

Yes, but even still we had a chance to win the game. They couldn't rise to the occasion.

Of course, getting 9 more points changes the game. Does not mean we win. Most likely, but doesn't mean we win.

If Sanchez doesn't throw the INT on the first drive, they don't get their first 3 points.

If we pick off the passes right in the defenders hands, we may have had more field goal attempts or TD's.

This team has lost several close games, and will turn around.

IMO - speical teams was a MUCH bigger problem than Sanchez. If we make some kicks, he's probaby never in the position to throw those late picks.

Sanchez's third year, known as the breakout year.

The Jets can get to the playoffs next year, maybe take the division, but I can almost guarantee you Sanchez's 1st playoff trip is going to be bad, because everyone's 1st playoff trip is always terrible.

yep...it's infuriating because i really really doubt you could find another team who lost multiple games this season because of COMPLETELY inept special teams plays.

well...maybe KC today? they gave up two to josh cribbs. but josh cribbs is WAYYYYY better than ted ginn who never even had a kickoff for a return before he played us.

this team needs an overall on ST. you can't have a unit fuck up in such fundamental aspects of the game.

Or in the case of Peyton Manning your first 5 trips...

The Jets will be fine, while by no means are they a young team they are in terms of playing together and as a team. Throw in a rookie QB and a relatively young and inexperienced coaching staff and the fact that they really are only a few plays away from having 10 or 11 wins is pretty scary. We're not quite there but we're not that far off either. If you think about it we haven't won any games because the opponent pissed the bed but we have given 4 games away. As the team goes forward they are going to close the deal and win close games instead of give them away.

This loss was just maddening...sitting there watching 3 botched fucking FG's was painful...and somewhere in my gut, by the 3rd miss, I knew we were going to blow it.

If you are on this board ripping anyone besides the ST for this loss, you are fucking clueless.

Bingo........I havent been here today and this game is on the special teams and nobody else. While the team was not world beaters today. 3 field goals 2 of which were less than 40 yarders......... give me a fucking break. The game should have been 13-3 by the time Ryan made his lone drive.

Anyway, not everyone expected SuperBowl with a rookie HC and QB. However, there is potential and the fact of the matter is this team has given away 4-5 games on lack of discipline, bad QB play, "#1" Defense lapses. So I can see where a good deal of frustration by fans comes from.

    Great thread btw..............

No you aren't clueless just because you see things differently than a few here happen to see things. There is plenty of ripping to go around. You can certainly rip the QB for 3 INTS. You can rip TJ for not taking this game over. You can certainly rip an offense that failed to score the entire second half of a game that they had to win and which only tallied 1 TD in the entire game. You can rip the defense for melting down just like they did against Jacksonville with the game on the line. You can rip Rex for being a pussy and not going for the TD when we had 4 & goal from the 1. You want to pin this on the ST and I'm happy to rip the ST as well, but there is plenty of ripping to go around. Its not as if the entire team except for the ST played well today - b/c they didn't. They played like losers.

    yes, thats an extreme exception.

a lot of QBs that are head and shoulders above him have sucked in their 1st playoff game.

It's just another tough, tough loss in a season full of them. Special teams definitely fucked it up today.... Leaving 9 points on the table will get you losses in this league. I just feel bad for the defense, they are amazing.

Special teams was the primary reason we lost, but it's never just one thing. The offense managed one touchdown all game against a bad defense. That's not good enough. The defense can't get a stop with the game on the line. That's unacceptable.

Special teams was the biggest issue, but the other problem is that units never pick each other up. The special teams was struggling to kick a field goal, so the offense needs to score a touchdown. The offense can't put points on the board, the defense can't get a stop.

It's just infuriating. People who say Sanchez is the primary reason we lsot are wrong. He's probably #2, unless you want to blame Schottenheimer for his failures because I'd buy that, too.
