I've been watching some of the available tape on this guy and I have to say, I am pretty impressed with what I have seen so far. Jets fans, this guy can move. And I am not kidding. He is an explosive back that ran a 4.3 at the combine. Not only that, he has something to prove being shorter then the average back. This may have been a big reason as to why he slid to the 4th. Many experts are saying that this was one of the best draft day steals this year in the 4th. He almost (ducks behind his desk) reminds me of another back that went in the draft this year. The 2nd overall pick. Yea yea I know, Bush is a phenom, but I am telling you that like Bush, this guy leaves a wake of defenders on the ground when he is doing his thing. He makes players miss, a lot, and from what I can see has some great instincts. Looking forward to seeing what this lad can do on the field.
I love neon leon i think he will be a huge playmaker this year. I dont think he is big enough to start but then again whenever i watch espn and they are talking about a good rb they always say "scouts thought that he was too small to play in the nfl". I think Cedric is gonna get all the attention and yards but Leon is going to be great and fun to watch. He is going to be like willie parker
His speed is his one real asset , what worries me is his overall stature and if he can bounce off tacklers at this level. The jury is out.
I don't know alot about this guy. I heard he is short but very fast. I just want him to get some carries to see how good this guy is.
try http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nyj and click the camara icon. Also of course the Jets official website has some nice footage. There is also a tube.com tape footage but i cant find it now lol. When i do ill post it, its real good. He is a tough back with tons of burst speed and has a real nice feel for where to cut and how to make defenders look pretty silly. He deffinately is not an "up the gut" type of running back. More of a patiant speed back who burns a lot of defenders with sudden bursts of speed. He has some great feet too, nice balance on the cut and shift.
um, you also might want to take a look at Shlegel too on yahoo lol. If thats the way this guy is going to roll, well then that was one heck of grab.
he's a quick little bastard - looks like he's gonna get killed in the NFL though. I wouldn't compare him to Bush at all. anyone else notice his teammates name "FAGG"? lol
Everyone puts him down because of his size, but if he were to add 10-12 pounds of muscle to his frame, there isnt anything holding him back from being able to carry the load. I think he is listed at 5'9 203. He would be nasty at 213 ish.
hes pretty much 5 ft 8, i think he'll play at 208 or 210 and people dont even understand, he will take a hit and think nothing of it. ive seen him get blasted by Vilma and DJ Williams, get right back up, and hell even push them back. i think people are in for a pleasant surpsrise when they see him.
he'll be best utilized in a reggie bush role (i think he's a poor man's bush, without the high price tag attached)... he'll rarely if ever see carries north of 15 during a game, but if utilized right he could be very effective
Watching that link above I wasn't completely impressed. He seems to absorb contact well. Falls forward. My dissapointment stems from the fact that I didn't see any breakaway's. I would hope that somebody of his stature would be capable of busting off a long one every now and again. In all honesty I am really hoping that Blaylock can bounce back and fulfill his potential. We aren't likely to cut him due to cap considerations. If he's going to be here the least he can do is be productive for us.
someone is getting cut. Dontrell Moore is a pretty good prospect as well. He has a good chance of making this team. My guess is that Blaylock or Houston will be cut.
i expect it to be blaylock, no use in having a RB who broke his foot a yr ago. the rest of the players are all young with plenty of potential. im surprised Dontrell Moore even went undrafted, he was one of the best college RB's. (i know injury but he ended up being a Doak Walker finalist the yr after, took no time off and it did not show in his play)
The thing I really like about Leon is that he doesn't let his size affect the way he approaches the game. He runs with a purpose, and will deliver the blow to defenders when he has the chance, rather than going down easy. You can also tell how well put together he is on that yahoo reel when you watch it, like RobA said earlier, it's not like he's got a Warrick Dunn frame.
