The title pretty much says it all, but I'm just thinking about the possibiity of Rob Ryan coming in as a defensive assistant. Rex would still call the plays but Rob would be a full-time defensive coach in practice and meetings. They both like unique defensive schemes and have similar styles. I'm not sure if the family dynamic would be a good or bad thing with them working together, or if Rex even feels that he has a need to get more help on D, but it's a thought. Also, Rob would have connections with a number of players throughout the league, and with what looks like a potential defense that other players will want to be a part of, his presence could have a recruiting impact as well.
I'm not sure if Rob would want to work under Rex. It's not so much they don't like each other, but more of a pride thing. Just speculation. I wouldn't wanna work with my twin.
If you bring in Rob, why have Rex still call plays? Why not take that off his plate and let him focus on being a HC? I'm not sure how that dynamic would go though. I could see the 2 dukeing it out on the sideline, lol
Rex seems to be very comfortable working with Mike Pettine so I don't think they'd want to rock the boat. Pettine was Rex's right hand man in Baltimore and has continued that role very well here. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I'm not sure how their relationship is, and if they would work together well as head coach and assistant. I mean, they're twins. I thought about the idea a while back, but I think with them both being such outspoken guys and strong personalities, I doubt that either of them would want to deal with that kind of a situation.
Yeah, the whole brothers aspect turns me off. It would definitely be boom or bust, and not knowing their relationship, I'd have to say play it safe...no. Besides, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
We have the number one defense in the NFL and we want to replace the defensive coordinator? I don't understand people sometimes.
It's amazing that we got this far into the thread and nobody screamed about the idea of replacing Mike Tannenbaum.
I bet he would end up getting fired after he beat the living shit out of Alvin Keels during Leon's contract negotiations.
have you seen the defenses in Oakland and cleveland the last few years? Because they were awful.... eventually something has to go on the coordinator
family shouldnt work together especially as coaches. Too many disagreements are sure to happen. Plus there will be the whole did he he only get this job because hes family discussion.
Its been mentioned many times in the past that neither one would ever want to work for the other. If they would I'm pretty sure Rex would have brought him over last year.
