Both have good physical tools (Rhodes' are better) but Coleman's mental errors are well documented. Small body of work thus far for each but I say Rhodes has far more potential. HTH.
2004 Coleman > 2005 Rhodes 2005 Rhodes > 2005 Coleman Both are good safeties, but I don't think the CS is all that high on Coleman.
Exit I'm feelin that zelda image but keep yea damn negative comments to yourself aright negative comments is not welcome here. aright buddy
I think with the drafting of Smith, it's going to be Coleman and Rhodes fighting for the FS spot, and Smith and Maddox battling it out for SS. Personally, I'm pulling for Rhodes and Maddox.
Rhodes and Coleman will start, and I'd rather have Coleman than Rhodes 10 times out of 10. IMO Rhodes is grossly overrated on this site.
y have a lot of ppl been implying that the CS isnt high on coleman. I know they drafted smith but i feel the reason for drafting him was to add competition to push coleman to be better not to replace him. I mean coleman is a hard worker who wants to be one of the best S in the league, As seen in the piece on him on the jets site http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show_article?article_id=688 . hes not here to be some punk who stays an avg player his whole career. with that being said the best players will play as the CS has said, and i feel that will be coleman and rhodes.
Exactly, maddox will shine if healthy. I think he was going to take the job from rhodes last season but he got hurt. Just my opinion.
It should and will be Rhodes & Coleman. I really don't understand how we already have people stating Smith & Rhodes have the best physical attributes. No one has seen Smith play, I can't understand how many of you can make assumptions about him when 80% of the people on this board never heard of him. Rhodes has the best physical skills out of all of them, and Coleman is much better in the box. He is too slow on coverages and we're screwed when he bites on the run and ends up being late to a deep post. Hence why he gets so many tackles because he's always thinking run first. Hopefully Mangini will drive that thought out of his head. Unless you can react amazingly like a Polomalu can, then don't take five steps forward when the ball is snapped always assuming it's a run unless you're blitzing.
Rhodes/Smith Coleman's a good backup. Problem with him is that he's a tweener for both safety positions...too tight in the hips to play centerfield and not nasty enough to intimidate as a strong safety. Some of you guys need to jump off his nuts.... FS: Rhodes/Coleman/Washington SS: Smith/Maddox/McClover
I think Coleman is getting discounted severely. He's a guy w/ great instincts for the position and is very quick to the ball. Last I checked those were the kind of guys who flourished in Patriots-esque system. If we used the combo of Rhodes and Coleman right, allowing Rhodes to play center field and having Coleman aggressively flowing to the ball we could have a very good combo on our hands. I wouldnt discount Andre Maddox either..if he can bounce back from his injury he has the speed and physical nature to really flourish.
I agree completely.. Mental errors can be overcome, and instincts cannot be taught. No matter how good this Smith's physical attributes are (and very few of us know for sure) it is unlikely his instincts match those of Coleman. I want Coleman on the field, because for every time he bites on a play fake and is burnt, he will make two or three clutch and/or big plays...
I don't get it either. He may not be a great poster or that intelligent (or so it seems), but this bashing is not necessary. The comment about Brick and Penny playing safety was no supposed to be drop dead funny. I thought it was pretty funny, but if you didn't think it was, move on.
