In other breaking news- Danny Woodhead is starting at Running back, this along with Kerry and Kellen starting will push the Jets to the playoffs. j/k obviously, don't want to get in trouble for fake news _
There's no way a coach would run his team like this. Worry about the contracts after the season, not when you're in a do-or-die fight for a playoff spot.
While that's certainly how I'm looking at this situation, I'm positive it's not how Rex Ryan is looking at it. Rookies or not, at the end of the day head coaches could give a fuck about next year's contract negotiations and draft order. They want to win now. What I'd imagine happened is Rhodes met with Thurman and Thurman gave Rex the OK. At least that's what I hope happened. The alternative is that Rhodes sat down across from Dennis Thurman, smiled and nodded for one hour and reclaimed his position as promised.
Eric Smith can't cover to save his life and Rex knows the only way they can beat us is through the air. That's the only answer because Rhodes can't tackle. I will take a healthy Clemens who practiced all week instead of Sanchez with 2 bad knees and no reps. Stop with the Beningo routines, we are gonna we easily. I could QB on Sunday. Our defense knows what we need, 2 TD's and under 10 and they will do it. Sit back and relax fellas
We are in no position to write any team off. Thats part of the bullshit that got us into this mess. The Buccaneers are looking to ruin some team's day and the Jets are the perfect team for that.
lol all my bucs friends are convinced were gonna win and they all say the same thing "i could be qb for the jets and the bucs would lose" Winslow is the only worry we should have, Straughter is a rookie surprise but nothing more, and Revis will make Bryant a non factor (in fact Freeman loves forcing him the ball, Revis for a pick 3 weeks in a row) we just need to not turn the ball over and make sure the 1st ranked rushing offense and the 31st ranked rushing defense both play to their stats. as far as Rhodes, i think this is just something to stop the hooplah. plus the only chance bucs have is the passing game. Smith is a liability in coverage. as much as we know Rhodes doesnt deserve his spot back i wouldnt read too much into it. plus from his press conference, Rex made it clear he doesnt care who "starts" hes calling the defense he thinks will win.
Maybe Rex wants Kerry to get his confidence back by taking advantage of a rookie QB. I'm going to have to dig up an article, but it alludes to Kerry not focusing so much on football (i.e. film sessions) once Revis began to refine his skills to an elite level. Rhodes was no longer the most talented player on the Jets defense. That's probably eright around the time that Rhodes decided to let people take pictures of him in faggy clothes. Kerry is an above average safety that has a lot of ability but little focus. And he's soft, to boot.
lol the sad part is friends of mine who took notice of him in 07 are asking wtf is going on now. my reply is as simple as. two years ago he was getting sacks, forcing fumbles, and making picks. now hes just someone whos good in zone coverage, yet cant come up with a pick or tackle a fuckin WR. pretty sad I remember the articles about him and Vilma hosting film study every week. guess his buddy left and he lost the drive. whatever fuck him, if he cant get back to 07 form let him go promote his male hormone serum somewhere else.
I'm sure most here saw that pick by Merriweather against Miami where he was standing back deep in middle of the field, recognized, and tore ass to his right to cut off the ball. I watched Rhodes in a similar play and there is just no recognition. It's like he's playing in a fog. Yeah, he can get over there if the throw is a wounded duck like he did that one game, but if the QB zips it at all Rhodes is toast. That's the worrysome thing because if it was just his speed then you would think that maybe he's dinged up a little and he will get better as his health improved. I'm keeping the faith like I always do. If they're wearing the uniform, I'm with em. Go Kerry........and GO CLEMENS!!!!!.
I listened to Rex's press conference and it's actually a little different. He said both Rhodes and Smith will play and starter has no meaning to him since they'll share duties. If Rhodes needs the status-symbol of being the starter then OK he can call himself the starter but really it doesn't matter who's in on the first play because it will be50-50 anyways... PS funny note.. he said: "sure you can call yourself the starter, and bring M. DOuglas with you" anyone noticed how often Rex references to Douglas ?
I wonder if that was the first name to pop into Ryan's head or if Douglas is the comparison as the "spot starter" who only plays a certain package or situation. I'm going with the latter. Technically, Rhodes can play the 1st snap and sit the rest of the game and he's a starter for that game. The word starter can be manipulated when on paper, but then again, football on paper is the most manipulated thing in the world.
I think having him "start" has two purposes. One, it gets him to shut up and stop whining. Two, it means he has to step up. Ok, you're starting dude, but that means you have to produce. If you don't, you have nothing to say regardless of how much you run your mouth. Take advantage or step aside, especially playing a team with 1 win this far into the season.
