if its not uncapped, then its like every other year. That would keep him on the team.

It is uncapped, he's more than gone. I hope.

I think alot of you dont reconize the talent he had at the college level. He was an outstanding prospect coming out of Ohio State, but every player picked in the first round doesnt work out. Yeah he hasnt played up to the potential that I had for him, but I think the JETS are going to give him some time still. Its his second season, hopefully he improves. I remember being at the draft, when they picked Gholston, I didnt see or hear any complaints about the pick. He was a great pick we needed an outside linebacker, and he had the speed and tools to be a Dware, but he hasnt worked out, maybe he will. But for whoever said he was a bad pick, your lying because I know alot of JETS fans wanted him at the time of the draft. You cant blame mangini for that pick, he was the best one on the board, and we needed an outside linebacker

    Jerod Mayo was picked 10th.

It was Mangini's fault, and that's the bottom line, cause Vernon Sucks.

The big question on Gholston coming out was whether he really wanted to play football or was just cashing in. I think we know the answer now.

He was projected to go top 10 before the combine. Gholston sucks but he wasn't a workout warrior.

He had 30.5 tackles for a loss in his last two years at Ohio State including 22 sacks. He regularly dropped back in coverage (from defensive end) when the Buckeyes were in a zone coverage and he intercepted a pass his senior year while in coverage. He was the only guy to beat Jake Long for a sack in 2008 and he beat him like a drum with 3 in one game.

This really is a sad case of a guy who didn't want it enough to become the player he could have been. He's taken the bonus and then just mailed it in since then.

Great scam BTW, sign a huge contract, play lousy for 2 or 3 years and then get cut with all that money in the bank.

This guy reeked of workout warrior bust. Hopefully going forward we will draft football players and not guys who look good in under armor. Mangini bought the hype and the team got burnt. In college he had some insane games where he picked up alot of stats and disappeared in others. He should go asap!

I think just as important was the fact that Mangini panicked and thought that the Pats would take Gholston if we didn't do so- in his mind, he won the chess match.

"great" and "outstanding" is a word that can only be used in the same sentence with da ghost when referring to the disappointment he's been.

The guy sucks so bad, that the coaching staff hasn't put him in a defensive play for god knows how long.

He improved this season. Looking back its easy to second guess lots of picks. Go to http://www.drafthistory.com and have some fun. He looked like a great pick. Most jets fans liked the pick as did most so called experts. He showed steady improvement this season when he got opportunities to play. He's a hard working guy and an excellent person. Hopefully he will get some more opportunities to play and improve. If thats not in the cards then we should wish the guy well. Not trash him.

You keep speaking in the past tense. Stick to the present and as of today Gholston is a monumental bust who has been given more than ample chances at succeeding with this team.

He is awful and it's good to see that some who used to be on the bandwagon have finally got off it. He will be gone quicker than you can say bust once we play our final game this year.

I looked back over the first round picks in the last three drafts and there are a ton of guys that when I read their names I said "Who the fuck is that?!" Its sucks Vern is a bust and sucking money out of the franchise but I'm not overally upset about nor do I hate Mangini because of it (i hate him for other reasons). The man also got us Mangold, D-Brick, Revis, Harris, Lowery, Eric Smith, Coleman, Leon, Keller...all currently starters or guys that get major playing time.

It takes some receivers 3 years to adjust and they played receiver in college, this is a whole new position so I have about 1% hope that next season he will show something.

He was a good college DL. He was a combine monster. He showed improvement this season under Ryan.

From a physical presence standpoint, I absolutely loved the pick. If I had about an hour to sit down with him and interview him, I probably would have ordered him a pink dress.

Where has he improved exactly? I thought he looked terrible out there when given the opportunity. Zero impact. Got blown up at the line more often than not. The reason he hasn't been getting the opportunities is because he hasn't earned them! The guy is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Why should I wish the guy well? He made something like $400,000 for that impressive performance vs. Buffalo....
