Can the Jets afford not to sign Jeff Garcia?

  1. Of course not, what is Tanenbaum waiting for?

  2. No, Kellen Clemens is just fine.

I've always liked garcia...wanted him over fukkin burt. He would make a great backup and mentor if he's willing to be a #2. He could do some magical things with this team if given a chance.

You hit the nail right on the head--We can't bring in ANYBODY at this time of the season and expect them to do anything. My opinion is go with what we got, but do NOT bring Clemens back next year--he hasn't shown us squat and Ainge couldn't do any worse. I also don't believe that you must have a veteran backup QB to tutor a young QB--isn't that what a QB COACH is for?

pennington is probably the best choice for us then. He knows the plays he knows what its like playing in NY and passing in the windy meadowlands.

How would signing Garcia make anything better at this point? He'd come in and be totally confused by the Jets offensive system, throw a bunch of picks and we'd lose anyway.

If Sanchez can't play the Jets best move is to take the play-calling away from Schotty (they should do this anyway), hand it to Callahan and then try Clemens followed by Ainge.

I can't stand Schotty's system at this point. It makes all QB's look worse than they are. When you have Chad Pennington and Brett Favre there's a small chance they'll swim out of the muck after they've had a good long look at the system but they'll never be great in it. When you have guys who don't have the confidence level that comes with many years behind center they just look shaky trying to run it.

    Chad and Favre in Scotty's system: 47 TD's, 45 Int's.

Chad and Favre after the jailbreak in their first year: 43 TD's, 10 Int's.

How much more damning could the numbers possibly be?

I mean you can argue that Favre to Minnesota was an upgrade on personnel for him but Chad to the Fins? Jeez.

I'm pretty sure I saw that Revis comment talking about Sanchez protecting himself from injury in an article posted in another thread.

You're wrong Gus (kind of). KC can't even hand the ball off. He fumbles and get sacked more often than a clean snap and its disturbing...

Jets dont need to go out and sign Garcia.

It looks like Sanchez will be able to play in Tampa. And even if Sanchez had to sit out that game is 1 week worth of practice enough to get Garcia ready for that game? I doubt it. So forget about him starting that game.

And even if its not for that game and just as an insurance policy in case Sanchez goes down the Jets are better off going with somebody who knows the whole playbook. There to far into the season to bring in somebody like Garcia now.

I dislike Clemens as much as everyone else, but it would be retarded to think we could sign a vet right now and have them help. Off-season is another story, and I'll be shocked if we don't

You get through this year. And bring Chad back in a backup-coach role.

His only other landing place is Minnesota if Favre steps down.

All we need is a servicable backup. Forget about replacing Sanchez. Just get someone that can play should he get hurt or start sucking again. Clemens isn't good at all.

I don't get it. Garcia? Oakland let him go because he was pissed he wasn't starting. He has NEVER been interested in mentoring anyone. Why is he still available? Same reason. We have a QB coach who mentored Flacco and a OC that mentored Drew Brees. What could a backup that knows nothing about this O teach him that they can't? We spent a high draft pick on Clemens and have still never seen him start a game,in season, when we had a decent team. I'd like to see what he has.
