Gentlemen, if we cannot beat the Colts and the Bengals starters, then we do not deserve to be in the playoffs.
indeed. the mark of a playoff team is the ability to beat division leaders. The Jets are on the road against the Colts. that game is very very difficult to win. The Bengals at home is a different story. That can happen.
Because Manning punished Rex Ryan's defense in Baltimore. We blitz a ton, and Manning destroys the blitz no matter what. Our defense can be in for a rude awakening if we can't get a rush from four or five men.
You want to know what will REALLY get Peyton out of the game (and it would also put an end to Tom Brady piling on points in garbage time) ? Hit the SOB on a pass-play and lay him out. I don't mean 1/2 second after he throws the ball...I mean 2-3 seconds after he lets it out.....flatten him....do it early in the game (for revenge against the Pats, it'd be late Q4)....take the 15-yard penalty...aceept that the team or player will be fined. Do it. You think Belichick would leave Brady in a game to pile up points after a throw to Moss shows him getting slammed to the ground by Calvin Pace or Kris Jenkins ? I GUARANTEE you that BB will yank Brady faster than Gisele does. Ditto Manning later this month.....
Go away please. Our organization has respect for a player like Peyton Manning, as well as a lot of our fans. Nobody apart of the Jets organization would ever encourage that.
Being completely honest here: I really wouldn't feel that bad if someone laid a cheap shot on Manning.
thats just a scummy thing to do I cant believe someone would advocate hurting someone after the play so they wont play him anymore. If we have to win to do that id rather lose.
(1) I have no problem thinking about things like this, but of course it's all meaningless unless the Jets win out. (2) If you want the Colts to lose, feel free to root for Tennessee, because IMO they are not a real playoff threat to the Jets. If both teams win out, the Jets have the tie-breaker; if the Jets don't win out it doesn't matter what Tennessee does. (3) I disagree completely with people who say that if the Jets can't beat the Colts with Manning et al, or if they can't beat division leaders, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. The only thing I care about, or the NFL cares about, is if the Jets win enough games to get in. No other teams didn't count wins against the Jets when Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde, or Joe Namath weren't playing for some reason. The Cardinals lost 4 of their last 6 games last year, including games against division leaders like the Giants and Patriots (well, they tied for the lead), but nobody told them they weren't allowed to play in the Super Bowl when they made it. If it's more likely that the Jets win a game if the other team sits out starters, I'm all for it.
well no one complained about the cards in the superbowl because no one sat their starters in the playoffs so i dont see the comparison at all. And theres a difference between sitting your starter and wanting to hurt manning so they sit him.
The comparison didn't refer to sitting starters. Several people earlier said that if the Jets can't beat division leaders they don't deserve to be in the playoffs, and as I said in my post the Cardinals and I disagree completely. As far as sitting starters goes, teams get into the playoffs all the time by winning the last game of the season against a team that either sits their starters or pulls them early because they've already clinched their playoff position, and that's just the way it is. I see no difference if it happens in game 15 or game 16. In fact, it happened two years ago in a game that involved the Colts. In game 16 in 2007 the Titans played the Colts and beat them 16-10, as the Colts pulled Manning, Addai, and Clark early, since they had already clinched the #2 seed. As a direct result of the Colts realizing that to them only the playoffs mattered, Cleveland didn't make the playoffs, and Tennessee did. You probably didn't even remember that (I know I didn't), and that's my point - it's the inevitable result of a short season in a physical sport. I'm sure the Browns fans weren't too happy about it, but I'll bet none of the Titans fans were saying that the NFL shouldn't let the team in the playoffs because they didn't "earn" it somehow. I can't understand any Jets fans who say it, either, if we're lucky enough to have the opportunity to see our team get in that way.
Considering that Indy will most likely have a rd. 1 BYE, do you really think they'll be resting guys in week 16, essentially giving them 3 weeks off to enter the postseason rusty? I guess the possibility of the starters playing the 1st half of the last 2 games exists.
I would like better that our team beats Indy with the starters playing rather than having the backups. if we are going to make the playoffs that way I would have no interest in seeing our team get humilliated in the first round, if we are going to make the playoffs we have to act like a playoff team that can beat anyone so we can have a chance at the playoffs rather than losing easily.
