I'm not sure what you mean by proven talent. Smith was a tackling machine and a heavy hitter. Suppose to have good instincts. I'll trust Mangini's scouting report over any of these talking heads any day - he knows a thing or two about the defensive backfield. My only concern is his history of injuries, but at least he's proven he's tough as nalis.
Our safety position is in my opinion one of the areas that needed the least amount of work. I"m still puzzled at this pick. Isn't maddox supposed to be that in the box safety. He's essentially still a rookie so i guess we'll see what happens.
Yeah, its real easy. I mean its not like its a professional sport. No affence, but Barrett has problems playing his own position.
Just a note on all of the "Smith is injury prone" crap I keep hearing. Pretty sure I read he didn't miss a game in the last two years. He had injuries in the past .. yep .. but it doesn't mean he is brittle. Last year he almost doubled the next highest defensive player in tackles for the Spartans last year. How will he play in the NFL? Will he stay healthy? Never know till he gets out there and does it. But anyone, regardless of history, can on any play have their season/career ended.
