Schotty isn't less involved, but he has the HC shoulder to shoulder with him, making sure he isn't fucking things up. Its basically a move saying Schotty not having anyone glance in his direction in terms of playcalling and philosophy can't be trusted anymore, and he needs the HC next to him to keep him in line. the clock is ticking, because if it doesn't get noticeably better in the next 3 weeks with struggling teams coming up, then schotty will be shown the door after the season is over, and we can all rejoice.
Kind of like your boss looking over your shoulder and saying "don't worry about your job, but I want to know everything you do".
You know what I love?? How I always see our wide receivers running all this intricate routes, I'm guessing in an attempt to outsmart the defenders/gain some separation, only to find that the routes they're running don't get any fucking separation at all. bunching the wide receivers and having them cross routes all the time annoys me too...i don't think i need to explain this one, some of the resulting picks from the pats game is all you need. on top of this, opposing teams have gotten a liking to sending big blitzes at sanchez, because, for now, sanchez has happy feet, and i hate to say it, but even though his run blocking is still very good, faneca is a big hole in our pass blocking. so he's always back there facing some pressure and/or moving around in the pocket because all teams do is blitz him, and here we have schotty not calling quick passes with simple routes to keep the blitz honest, but calling all these intricate plays which take time to develop, time we can't afford with the blitz, and the end product is basically nothing anyways because all those fucking intricate routes schotty designs gain no fucking separation. i love schotty. /rant.
Callahan owned us as an OC with Oakland. The guy coached a team to the SB as an HC. WTF has Shotty ever accomplished?
On the surface I think it's just Rex saying to the press that he's trying to be more of a head coach than just a defensive coach with his hands off the offense. But underneath the surface is a head coach that is showing much less trust in his OC than the nod of confidence that he gave him before offseason preparation began. I was kind of joking about the deathclock comment, but Schotty isn't bulletproof anymore.
and usually once that bulletproof aura is gone, the next step is being under the microscope, which i feel is going to happen in the 1st week of december. To speak in metaphor - I think the Bills game made Rex glance over at schotty, the Jags timeout mistake stare at him, and the Pats game convinced him he has to be looked after for his own good. another week of massive fuck ups and Rex will be making calls to guys he think can do a better job. People have to understand if Schotty didn't have his outsmarting problem, then Rex would still solely be worried about fixing the DL problems on defense... which would also make me wonder if he'd make this change of becoming more of a HC if that was the case. So maybe this is a blessing in disguise, or we are all ahead of ourselves and this progress was coming anyway, but at a later date. That's why we are fans. We never totally know whats going on.
I'm not so sure how on the block Schotty will end up being... he had an awful amount of support from the Owner when they turned over this coaching staff. We'll see, but so far Schott has more lives than Morris.
