Cooking up some tasty draft leftovers By Vic Carucci / National Editor, NFL.com (May 5, 2006) -- One writer's random notebook leftovers from the 2006 NFL Draft: -- D'Brickashaw Ferguson is a ridiculously large human being, so suggesting that he needs to become larger in order to realize his full potential as an NFL offensive tackle seems a bit, well, ridiculous. At 305 pounds, D'Brickashaw Ferguson's is actually light for an NFL tackle. Yet, before the New York Jets made the former Virginia standout the third overall choice, there were plenty of scouts around the league who told me that he would be an even better prospect by adding bulk to his 6-foot-5, 305-pound frame. Ferguson, the scouts said, was especially in need of packing on more lower-body weight to help him get greater push in blocking for the run.The key, of course, is for Ferguson to gain more pounds without losing mobility. And it seems to be an issue with which he grapples each time he sits at the dinner table. A couple of nights before the draft, Ferguson dined at one the two Manhattan locations of Carmine's, famous for mammoth, family-style portions of incredibly delicious Southern Italian food. Instead of digging in like the rest of his party, he only had a small sampling of the carbo feast in front of him. A day later, at a pre-draft media luncheon that also included five other top prospects in New York, Ferguson took about two bites from the two pieces of steak on his plate before pushing the plate away. Clearly, "D'Brick" has not yet grasped "d'concept" of bulking up. > http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/9419452
Vic Carucci is a knob. It's a few nights before the biggest night of his life, maybe he's a little nervous and doesn't have his usual appetite. That article might as well not even exist.
D'Brick went from 254 at the age of 18 to 305 at 22. He'll get to the weight he needs just fine and he'll be one of the rare offensive linemen that are all muscle. Jelly-belly tackles are a thing of the past. In 10 years there'll be just a few of them in the league just like there were in 1980.
Carmine's is a great place to go with a large crowd. If you go with like 3 or 4 people it's impossible to order right because of the huge portions. Either everybody has to agree on the two dishes tops that you're ordering or else there's like massive amounts of food left over at the end.
As long as the dude's a stud at OT, he'll be fine. he wasn't my first choice but .......................
I don't want Ferguson gaining massive amounts of weight. He's an exceptional pass blocker because of his footwork and athleticism. He should not sacrifice that in order to marginally improve his run blocking by gaining 20 pounds.
I agree, but its not so much the weight thats restricting him, its the demeanor. Hell, Id like to see him at 320, but weight does not equal dominating run blocker. Itll help but its not necessary. Fabini was a monster run blocker and yet he was only 300 some pounds. I like Ferguson, but if he keep him at LT and put Jones on the right side, we're at a severe disadvantage when it comes to running the ball. Which is why we desperately need to address RT
That's a stupid article. Does anybody know whats the chances of getting drafted 4th overall in a NFL draft. All I know is I will be shitting bricks because the butterflies will kick in.
