Set the tone with the run why call a play action when you have done crap with the run yet? No reason to respect it.
Yet Cotchery was open. It's almost laughable now. Whenever Sanchez makes a bad pass, people immediately blame Schotty and say that we should have run. We ran 50/50 pass-to-run plays today which is a good ratio. Besides, the running game averaged 3.7 yards per carry. Still wanna run more than 50% of the plays? The opening play call was excellent. It's an easy read and Sanchez had all day to make the throw (and who cares if he had to rollout to his left, he had all day to square-up and make the throw). The outcome of an interception on that play is zilch if Sanchez makes a respectable throw. The rookie will learn.
Cotch was open, it was a bad throw as Sanchez was throwing across his body. Good call, bad execution .....
You are the #1 rushing team. Cute shouldn't be in your vocabulary. That play had cute written all over it. Just fucking run it up the middle.
I was at the game. The throw was late and weak. Cotch had Mathis beat by 5 steps except by the time Sanchez finished rolling out and setting his feet the gap started to close. Add that to a weak throw and the result is the INT. All of this pissing and moaning about the play calling is getting stupid. If Sanchez makes the throw and Cotch gets the TD everyone here starts jerking off and loving the call. The QB fucked up not the OC. Plus...Sanchez's play fakes suck ass.
Nice post. I agree. Cotch was clearly open, and if the pass had been well thrown, the Jets would have had six.
Great call, great execution but a horrible throw. Sanchez holds the ball too long and then on top of that underthrows it.... Its as if he didn't think J-Co was open ENOUGH and waiting for 10 steps instead of 5.
I love this call! It was a great call by Schotty. Not once, have we thrown the ball deep on our opening drive this year. Not once! I have been clamoring for it for a few weeks. Their pass defense blows and we were trying to take advantage. Cotch torched his man and got wide open. Sanchez made a horrendous throw and it totally destroyed our momentum, and gave the Jags the start they needed. All that said, If Sanchez makes an NFL throw, thats a big play, and everybody is in love with Schotty this morning. I also loved the Edwards reverse/throw call. Edwards has a gun! Yes Edwards had room to run but he has to realize that. He has an option throw or run. If he doesnt run it, it's not on Schotty, thats on Edwards!
The first play of the Game- WTF All week the Jets preach we need the crowd. 83,000 people in the stands "loud". The ball is deferred to us, what a time to run it 5,6,10 times in a row and demoralize Jacksonville, let them know who long a day it will be. No, that would be to simple and predictable, Shcotty is gonna catch them off guard trick them. We opt for a play that I guess works 15-20% of time 60% time falls incomplete and forces into a passing down and 10% of time what happens happened a pick. Crowds out of it, Jacksonville has momentum 12 seconds in and wouldn't you know it we are playing catch up all day. The idea of being good/ great at something is being able to do it even when the other team is coming. I believe we have a good/ very good running game and offensive line who gets better as game goes on. Can we not just run the damn ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, please. Get over it. That ball doesn't get picked and J-Co makes the catch and we're sitting here talking about what a brilliant call it was by Schotty to call a pass when you know opposing teams expect us to run.
