Outside of the asinine TO call I thought Shottenheimer did a great job. It's not his fault Sanchez couldn't execute a screen that would have scored a TD on the 1nd drive or that sanchez missed an open Edwards in the EZ. He called an excellent game.
I'm not blaming Schotty at all. In fact I've been defending him all season. We're just not a good team. We're mediocre (look at my prediction in my sig) with a chance to become great if our qb develops the right way.
This is the perfect week to be bashing the offensive coordinator. He called a bomb on the first play of the game that set the tone for the first 3 quarters and then he called a spread formation play on 3rd and a half yard at the goal line and only got bailed out because he was too incompetent to have only 11 men on the field at that point. Then he called the right play, and the Jets scored. Why would you call the spread formation, have to call a timeout and then come back with another play? Maybe because the first call was stupid and self-defeating?
BINGO, THIS STATEMENT IS DEAD BALLS ON ACCURATE! he called one of his better more conservative games today, which is what this qb and team needs. but he makes really stupid, out of character plays every now and then that leave's you scratching your head. the first play of the game was a bummer. rookie qb not properly warmed up (if he had been, he wouldn't have thrown a duck) throws a pick to start out the game, is not a confidence builder, thats for damn sure. and then the edwards pass when we're down by 5, head scratcher. edwards should have been out running a route while we ran jones up the middle for 8 to 12 yards.
I didnt see much of the game, but I will tell you this much, besides the play calling one of my big concerns is a lack of developing offensive players. People forget the offensive coordinators job is to not only run the team offense but also work on the development of players. Who has Schotty really developed into a good player, please tell me one, if it were not for Tannenbaum finding lots of jewels in the rough Schotty would have very few quality players on his team +1 for firing him
D'Brick, Mangold, Moore, Cotchery, Thomas Jones, Sanchez. These players have developed under Schotty.
I agree with the first poster. I've never liked him either. His play calling can be very lousy at times. But no matter how you look at it, there were many mistakes made in this game, and on both sides of the ball. The defense should have held at the end, though. Now we've lost 4 out of 5 games by 5 or less points, and that is where Ryan takes the blame. This team is going nowhere fast, and Ryan needs to make changes quick, or this team will be home in the playoffs.
At 4-5, the only way they make the playoffs is by winning the remaining 7 games, and if you believe that's possible, I got this bridge on sale really cheap....
So, once again, anyone who disagrees with you is in line for turning the discussion away from the Jets and into personal insults. This is exactly the juvenile behavior you repeatedly display. Go home son. Come back when you grow up. IF you grow up.
Didnt mean to come off that way...I was agreeing with your thoughts of Sanchez and just pointing out that IMO most of the loss today falls on the defensive side of the ball. I do think we are a good team though.....we just have some wrinkles to iron out.
Schotty is not a terrible play caller, but it has become clear that he just doesn't fit well with this team. Promote Callahan!
I think 10-6 can get you in...but I agree with your overall point...no way they're making the playoffs now.
