I dont think we sould. Yeah i kno that there has been no QB that has come back from 2 right rotater cuff injures but has there even been a QB that has torn their Right rotater cuff twice? I mean since Pennington has injured him self a lot of people gave up hope but in the 2004 playoff game every one belived in him and we sould belive in him now. He was a Great Qb and i think he can still be a great Qb since he has had more time to let him rest. Last year he didnt get nearly as much time as he did this year. On June 1st when he does start throwing he will be back to his old self before he got injured both times. But if he does Bomb we have Ramsey. But i dont think he bombs. I think he will be are starting QB next year. He will be starting around week 3 or 4. He didnt have the strongiest arm before his injures and yes i think he will be a little affected by his injuries but not much. Before he got injured both times he was one of the most accurate QB's in the league and i think again his accurcey will be a affect by his injurie but not by much. Arm power is all that great if you can throw the ball 40, 50, 60 yards you are in good shape. but if you are not accurate you are screwed just look at Kyle Boller he has a great arm but is not acurate. Pennington may not have the strongiest arm but he is pretty darn acurrate but that my change do to his Rotater Cuff. i dont think it will be affected that much. i guess we just have to wait in see. What do you guys think?
In Chad We Trust. idc how much his critics wanna attack the shoulder. let them. fact is, this guy hasnt played bad when hes healthy. this guy has more heart than any QB in the league. hes not the most talented, but hes determined to win football games. when youve got a guy that does everything he can to win, how can you not start him. think about it, if youve got a QB that just plays, and doesnt go the extra mile every chance he gets, he might be good, and he might win, but hes not maxing out. pennington is relentless in his work ethic, and the more players like chad that we get, the better we'll get.
i am with you all the way NYJ1012 if Pennington didnt think he could still be the Qb he was and couldnt be great he would have retired.
Why would we give up on Penny? He is on the roster and should have an opportunity to compete. Sorry but this is a pointless thread.
Pennington Atleast he's proven that when he's healthy, he's a very good QB. Ramsey hasn't proven a damn thing except that he's been a 1st round bust.
Pennington's injury isn't the only problem going on for him... I have said this before, but I believe psychologically Pennington has been a bit damaged. He has been knocked down, gotten up, and knocked down again twice. Rehabbing like that is not an easy thing to do. I think when Pennington does come back (again) he will have his injuries in the back of his head. He may play not to get hurt and he also may try and make too many things happen since he has missed so much time. In my opinion he is completely done. Aside from those injuries, he has not gotten into any consisent success which most successful QB's do by 29 years old. What I mean by that is he hasn't hit his prime. Almost all QB's are in their prime by age 29. I would be floored if Chad ever lead us to a playoff berth again. Let me also say that Chad was one of my favorite Jets ever. So I am not a Chad basher.
I hope he does and I'm rooting hard for him, but at the same time I'm a realist and was glad we have plan B and C if not. I think we're in a good situation to at least see if he can come back. If not, we have Ramsey/Bollinger to hold the fort until we see what Clemens has to offer. I really liked that pick.
Look, like it or not, because of salary cap reasons Penny will be on the team this year, maybe next. So since he will be on the roster, we might as well give him every chance to come back. He is here anyway. If it doesn't work, we move on and it doesn't cost anything. If it does, the Jets have a QB. Give up on him? Not yet.
Both choices makes me want to drink a large cup of AntiFreeze and end it all. Ramsey or Pennington? That's not saying a whole helluva lot here. Neither guy is great nor has won anything big. Both have issues that go beyond injuries or being systematic. Pennington was good as long as Hackett designed those boring, safe, gameplans for him. The league had caught up with the "playfake" and was starting to take away the short to medium range stuff and would force Pennington to beat them deep. Ramsey? He had his issues in DC with a coach known for developing high calibre QB's. Jeff George reincarnate? Perhaps. Will he succeed in New Jersey? Who knows however, if there's a weak link on this team right now, its whomever we suit up to take snaps.. I'll pass on the poll thanks..
Even though what you said may be true, still he was at a big disavantage with the predictable play calling of Hackett/Edwards and last year Edwards had a lot to do with the playcalling too. When a defense knows what play is coming, it makes it a lot more difficult to complete passes and run the ball. Teams were happy to let Curtis run and stop the pass and let Chad beat them. You can't win just by running the ball. I still like to see a healthy Chad with an offense that will keep the defense guessing.
It's too bad Pennington has an OL that will be good in the years to come. Not having an experienced line now will only get him hurt again. Then we will say he should just go away. It's sad to see a good player like this get torn apart year after year, but I guess most do. But besides all that we could be proven wrong, and he might rise to the occasion.
i really hope he comes back and plays extra hard to disprove his critics. if he could be half the qb he was in 02, id be satisfied
Why wasn't Clemmens an option? He was picked to take the reigns. Maybe he won't do it this year, but I just don't see a Brees/Rivers situation happening here. Penny would need to play significantly better than the best he has every played. For a long time I was on Penny's side, figuring he would make a full recovery and be ready for this year. After Manigni's draft interview, I have very little confidence anymore. You don't make multiple first day moves for a guy who was only a broken ankle away from a first round pick and not plan on him being your future guy. Penny may well be my favorite all-time Jet, but I just don't see him being here more than another two years. I'm still in his corner though. If he can do it, (and if anyone can, it's him) then he deserves the chance to win back his job. If he can't do it by late-October though, you can say your farewells to Chad for good.
now way we cant give up on him, he could be comeback player of the year if he can pull off not getting of hurt:breakdance:
No. He wouldn't be here with a new regime taking over if they didn't think there was a strong possibility of a return.
I don't think Pennington is going to be the Pennington he used to be. Hes like a pencil everytime you get hurt you got to sharpen that pencil, then your eventually going to relize that the pencil is getting old.
"cautious optimism" is the term best used in regards to Pennington. I really hope that he can regain his old form, but realize that it would be a monumentous accomplishment, and the odds of his arm being toast are quite strong. hmy:
That was the best evaluation ever im glad to see that there are more intelligent life forms on TGG because everyone here still thinks that chad is going to come back and win a goddamn superbowl this year, but hes never going to get a superbowl unless its as a backup to tom brady or someone.
