This reply is about your banner in your signature! After seeing THAT I'm ready to become a Jets fan!
Actually, Jones averaged 3.8 per carry (27 carries for 102 yards) and Greene averaged just 2.3 yards (8 carries for 18 yards). That said, whatever anyone here on this board thinks about Greene, he is the change of pace back now that LW is out. The NFL has developed into a league where it's almost essential to have more than one back. Gone are the days of a Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, or Earl Campbell carrying the load all the way. Jets fans should be thankful for three talented backs. One is a Pro Bowler who has almost 9,000 career yards on his resume and led the conference in rushing last season. He is currently 2nd in the conference. Another is a talented young rookie who needs touches to develop and is going to make rookie mistakes. Looks like a good one in the making. The third is one of the NFL's best homerun hitters, who is unfortunately injured. Hell, even Woodhead has shown some ability and elusiveness. I fail to see the problem. I've never visited a board where some fans held such venom toward any of their own team's players. Not to preach at some of you, but I'd think if it was wearing green and white, you'd cheer for them.
I'd argue that Jones' improvement had way, way more to do with the acquisition of Braylon Edwards and subsequent development of a legitimate passing game than the fact that Shonn Greene is starting to get carries. For reasons that I can't decipher, some Jets fans seem to almost root for Jones to struggle. To each his own I guess, I for one am happy that the Jets have had a real #1 back for the past few years. And I can tell you for sure that the Bears are kicking themselves for running him out of town when they did.
Fuck, beat me too it. Seriously. 1 1/3 games, and this guy can clearly project him as a backup, fumble prone, no Thomas Jones, etc. Fascinating.
Thomas Jones - Avg= 4.7 Shonne Green - Avg= 5.6. He fumbled - BFD, he's a rook and has 34 whole attempts worth of experience. Know how many times he put the rock on the carpet in college?...Nada, zilch, zip....in 377 attempts and 2228 yards over 3 years. His college avg yards per carry?....5.9, but 6.2 over his last 2 years. Watch what happens next year after another offseason in the weight room and with the S&C coaches..... No, he's not Thomas Jones. Someday he'll be better.......
Yeah, as if TJ didn't have a handful of lousy games his year too... Give the guy a break. He made one mistake and already people are getting on his case?
Some fans just feed off of negativity. It doesn't even need to be a legit negative, or obvious, you guys will find something to bitch about. I support every player on this team. Is it weird that I support both backs right now and I'm rooting both of them on each and every Sunday? Did I miss the memo? TJ is good, consistent. Greene has already shown flashes of having potential to be much better then TJ. That is the fact of the matter. He had a fumble, OMG, the sky is falling!! What a JOKE!?!?!
I have seen Martin, Jones, Washington, Richardson, and darn near anyone else you name have a couple of disastrous fumbles in their career. Greene has one fumble which, btw, did not cost us the game, ST did, and you think he is a bad runner. I think he was a great draft choice and I see Greene panning out and being way more productive than Gholston ever will be.
Shonn Greene is a great back... Thomas Jones is a decent back but ever since Greene has been in games Jones has been running harder like he should be without the threat of someone behind him lurking for his spot..
