Shit LW is out for the season????

Seriously, we arent getting rid of TJ this year but if LW is back for next season I believe TJ is the odd man out.

How can you get 1'000 yds production with 1/3 of the carries TJ has?

    last year (recieving + rushing):

TJ: 1'519 yds on 326 touches

LW: 803 yds on 123 touches (I left the return yds out)

    this year:

TJ: 499 yds on 100 touches

LW: 462 yds on 87 touches

Up to week 6 they had pretty similar numbers didn't they?

TJ has one upside... he is a very very very reliable RB who runs with the same effort from the first to the last play, and i love him for that.
But that skill (especially in a 3RB rotation) has it's value in $$$ and it isn't the type of money TJ wants right now.
for 1.5/2 mill a season happy to have him on the team... anything more is a rip-off and we can do withouth him.

in case you are wondering why some of us want to cut him next year (or, like I want, to rework his contract).

WHile I think Leon has been a very exciting player, and am not averse if the case can be made to criticizing the coaching staff, but there is a reason why Jones has gotten more rushes than Leon. The CS thinks Jones is better at that role. I am sure it has occurred to them to question why Jones should get the ball as much as he has rather than reversing the numbers with Leon. And yet even under a new HC Jones still gets more carries.

It is also far from clear, at the very least, that raising Leon's carries would have meant his ypc would have stayed the same.

You're comparing touches? That's like comparing apples to oranges. Everybody knows that Jones and Washington are not the same types of backs. Why don't we take a look at their rushing stats...

    Leon Washington

    Carries - 72, Yards - 331, Average - 4.6, TD's - 0

    Thomas Jones

    Carries - 122, Yards - 602, Average - 4.9, TD's - 7

It's obvious who the better back is, atleast statistically. Sure, Washington might have more yards up to week six if you want to compare all their touches. But Leon has a little more to work with, as far as play options go. For Jones, the Offense is designed around him running the ball. For Washington, it's designed around him running occasionally but mostly catching the ball out of the backfield. Nearly 1/3 of all Washington's yards are not rushing yards (Not including KR of course.). Might I add that Washington did not have one touchdown in seven games? Like Big Blocker said, it's obvious that the CS has confidence in Jones rushing the ball over Washington.

Jones is 4th in the entire league in rushing, behind big names like Steven Jackson, Adrian Peterson, and Cedric Benson (Who is having an amazing year). 2nd only to Benson in the AFC. Not only that, but Jones has proved that he's durable. How many games has Jones missed due to injury over his entire career? Sure, Leon got a bad break (No pun intended), breaking his leg on that first play. But how likely is that to happen when he gets twice the amount of carries? Probably more likely. I know you guys love Leon, I do too. He's a great guy, but he will never start in this league. How many hits to you think he could take from big LB's before he gets hurt?

I'll give you a perfect example of this situation. The NY Giants had great success with Derrick Ward last year. Using him as Jacobs backup, Ward was a serious speedy threat, and he had an amazing year. The Giants don't want to pay, so they ship him to Tampa Bay where he has a larger role, and look what happens? Nearly ineffective!

The difference between TJ and Leon is that if you send either one of them to a different team to start, only one of them is going to have success and it's not Leon Washington.

Actually no. You're saying that Darren Sproles is the same type of back as Ladanian? Or that Amhad Bradshaw is the same back as Brandon Jacobs? The Offensive play calling for both backs is different for one major reason... Because they're different types of backs. Comparing all the yards that Washington has on receptions and Screen plays is fair to compare to Thomas Jones rushing yards?

I'm not saying any of that....not in the least.

I'm saying that you can't thumb your nose down at Leon because he didn't reach a 1000 yards like TJ...when TJ has almost tripled the amount of touches LW received in the past.

And most TJ fanboys can't distinguish between hate and valid criticism.

TJ is one of the top RBs in the league on the #1 rushing offense in the league. I don't see why there is a need to complain...

But our defense can get praised for doing well against those same teams? Lol at peoples flawed logic. Tj is doing what we need him to do, who cares what teams he does it against, as long as his production is positive its a good thing..

Well shit, someone's gotta carry us against sub .500 teams. Greene's still coughing up the ball and our QB play sure isn't leading us to the promised land.

Give Jones some credit. He wears down the defense, he piles up yardage, he blocks in the passing game...he's not Adrian Peterson or anything but he's one of the better running backs in the league.

he's a good RB. The kind that works well with the way this team wants to run the football.

He's not a total gamebreaker, but he's a workhorse that gets the yardage you need and gets better as the game goes along - I truly believe thats because he's in better shape than entire defenses when it comes to 4th quarter endurance.
