What did Tanny have to do with Herm?

I agree with you here. His draft picks weren't the best (not bad either), but his cap issues became apparent when those contracts went into their 3rd and 4th years. Basically, Tanny just got done cleaning up his and Terry Braodassway's mess.

John Abraham is now Nick Mangold, who will hopefully be an anchor until at least 2015. Pennington, while flawed, is one of the toughest, smartest QB's we will ever see - and he lead us to playoff appearances and a rare playoff win. Ellis never was spectacular, but has been a 9 year veteran who has been extremely good and consistent - for 9 years at a big position.

Football is a lot about attitude. Parcells attitude was all over this team for quite some time.

Not joking. All were good players, three certainly worthy of a 1st round pick. Abraham was an injury risk but a great pass rusher and netted us Mangold, Ellis is still an integral part of our D nine years later, Pennington took us to the playoffs three times and won twice. Unless you think everyone drafted in the first round needs to make the Hall of Fame to not be a bust, that's up to you. Lengthy, productive careers to me are worthy of a draft choice. We also got Laveranues Coles later in that 2000 draft.

I think the difference is Parcells is a good talent evaluator and brings in his guys to a system that works....and Ryan is a guy that takes what he has and motivates his players and makes them better.

Thanks for setting him straight. I'm always amazed when Jet fans that have watched the same games I have for all these years can make such silly statements.

Ellis and Chad didn't live up to expectations? Chad got hurt and it derialed his career but when healthy he was very good for us and Ellis has been here 10 seasons now playing at a high level.

By the way, Al Groh made those picks not BP. See 1997-1999 for BP drafts.

His drafting was terrible. he hit on a couple of guys but w/ the amount of picks he trdaed down for we didn't get much in return.

Bradway cleaned up BPs mess and Tannenbaum was our cap guru during all of it so he doesn't go blameless.

OK, call me silly, whatever, but here's the deal. I never said his choices were bad. They were all good players except Becht, just never lived up to their drafted spot. Out of the 4 first rounders, not one of them was worth it. John Abraham - Injury prone. Chad - Injury prone. Shaun - above average at best. Becht - end of discussion. Coles - excellent choice.

Again, not bad choices, but certainly not the best.

the thing about parcells is that we had become a moribund, barren franchise that was 4-33 since the marino spike and he flipped it over and straightened us out, laid a solid foundation for the next coach who took over, unlike the mess he inherited. the jets stopped being putrid with parcells and haven't been putrid since. no head coach since, has left the team that much better than when he got it, than parcells. and i'm no fan boy.

I guess it depends on what you expect from that spot. For guys that went in the first round after the top ten, they've all had pretty productive careers. When you think about what a crapshoot the draft is, to get four guys that all have good long careers, and three of them at a pretty high level, then throw in Coles, I'd say they did a good job. Which is what I said.

Keyshawn got us two first rounders from Tampa Bay in 2000, we got one for Belichick and had our own, which are the four we are discussing--John Abraham, Shaun Ellis, Chad Pennington and Anthony Becht. I don't remember which guys we drafted match exactly with which picks we got from whom, but those were the four guys. In 2006 Abraham was traded for a lower first rounder than he was drafted at, and we got Nick Mangold with that pick.

    I agree with your post.......
I think Parcells is instilling the same type of attitude in Miami.
Don't fool yourselves into thinking that a coach isn't making moves to make himself look good. They all do, and it is all tied together. If a coach makes good moves and his players do well it reflects on him very well. The opposite is also true. So if you think for some reason Ryan isn't trying to make himself look good by putting together a good team you are mistaken. You can't have one without the other. Ryan loves the mic, loves the attention and Parcells does not. Parcells on the other hand has been at the helm several times and improved each team he has been with, and this is Ryan's first go at HC.

Parcells was a decent coach. I liked when he used to go for it on 4th and 2 from the 45 yard line but the man got absolutely too much credit. George Young built that team. He was the guy that that drafted taylor, marshall and the rest. That being said I used to run into Parcells all the time when he was living in Sea Girt nj and from my observations the guy was a fucking creep. After the fifth time I tried to say "good game Bill" I gave up and started really disliking him. He would not even make eye contact with you. He would just sit in his table, always with some hot broad, and get shitfaced.
I got nothing against drinking or hanging out with hot broads he just pissed me off with his attitude.

Parcells has my total respect. I will forever be grateful for him turning this trainwreck around. He is one of the greatest football minds ever.

Hess should have never died and Johnson should have never bought the team and Parcells might still be here.

John Abraham: Best pass rusher the Jets have had in a decade
Chad Pennington: Best QB the Jets have had in a decade
Lav Coles: Best receiver the Jets have had in a decade
Sean Ellis: Team captain, good enough to stick around through 4 coaches

Seems like a solid draft to me.

Parcells was and still is an asshole. An abrasive, egotistical, no other word for it, asshole. He's been called a 'genious' for knowing what buttons to 'push' with each player (he called a WR in NE a 'she'), can't imagine Rex doing that.

Players play hard for Parcells because he's and asshole and pushes their buttons.

Players play hard for Rex because they love him.

Same results, night and day approach.

I LOVE what Parcells did for us, even 'ditching the Giants for NE, then kicking NE to the curb for NY'. Talk about Favre? Parcells always 'retires', then goes on to coach a competing team.

Parcells demands total operational control. Ego. He's not 'that good' at drafting, and always has his 'groopies' that follow him from town to town, both players and coaches. How many times did Parcells bet on the ponies with that LB that gave the crowd the finger (god i love him for that).

Parcells has piercing blue eyes. Rex looks like he ate Parcelles (and will Monday night).

That's about as close as Rex and Parcells get.
