I will say that if they field Edwards, Cotch, and Clowney at the same time, that is formidable speed for any team.

This week more than ever, I believe Clowney will get some legitimate play tiime. Atleast while Braylon gets acclimated to the playbook. Since Clowney most resembles Braylon in terms of speed and height, you can probably expect to see Clowney playing a majority of the snaps in the same role that Edwards will be playing in 2 weeks. He'll fill in until Braylon is completely ready. So, in the time that he's filling in, that will be his time to shine and really show the CS something. With some real NFL play time under his belt and maybe another off-season, I really think Clowney can become a legitimate threat, if not for this team then for another.

On a side note, I notice there were some people that said Clowney is only suited for the outside. However, if you remember Clowney's only catch last year was a 26yd reception against the Phins when playing in the slot, it was not a deep ball outside the numbers. As far as a slot receiver goes, I would have to say I'd take Smith over Wallace Wright anyday. Brad Smith proved last year that he's not afraid to go over the middle and take a hit, as he showed in the San Fran game towards the end of last season. I think this is one of the most important qualities of a good "Slot WR". Something Chrebet, and now Welker exhibit through their style of play. You have to be able to catch in traffic and be ready to take a hit, and hold onto the ball.

People keep predicting Clowney will break out, and he has yet to despite the predictions. I don't see the Edwards signing as a positive, or more to the point reflecting the team's having a high assessment of him. If they thought, as some here said, that the Jets had Clowney for the deep threat and Stuckey as the slot guy, then why did they send Stuckey to Cleveland, and bring Edwards here?

The logic of the Edwards trade is that the Jets were getting no help drawing coverage away from Cotch, and the deep threat receiver has not been Clowney.

Now that Edwards is with the Jets, they're going to make him the slot receiver? Hey, I can't rule that out, but I don't see how Edwards coming makes Clowney more likely to see playing time.

Jets fans treatment of Clowney is exactly like how we used to think about Ratliff. Hey, he's never on the field and the coaching staff clearly doesn't believe that he can get the job done, but I think he's gonna be the next superstar!

We don't know anything that the coaching staff doesn't. If he was performing well in practice then he'd be getting playing time. If he can't perform in practice, he isn't going to do well in a game situation. Simple as that.

I wish people would think about this more. Obviously Clowney hasn't impressed the staff enough yet. I've seen him on the field, but not often, and he's never even glanced at by Sanchez. Is that by design or is Sanchez "missing" him? I lean more toward design.

If we don't see Clowney get significant playing time this week I'm betting we never will. This is the one week where Edwards is going to be not much more than a distraction for the opposing defense. Clowney has been in for long enough to have a grasp of it. Either he steps up this week, or he never will.

Unfortunately for the Clown, I don't think he ever will...

Well, for one rason or another Cloney has been on the bench. I do think Clowney will have to see time while Edwards is getting acclimated; we will see if he makes the most of it.

Clowney has been beat out by BSmith. Clowney has speed. I have loved this guy in the preseason the last two years. He has always been behind BSmith (a qb in college). If you want to tell me its because BSmith can run end arounds....wow Clowney can't run an end around with his speed?...wow Is this guy really a player? Doesn't seem like it guys. He was our deep threat and hasn't been used. How will he get chances now with a true deep threat on the team? Don't see it.

Don't get me wrong here. He is a Jet and I want to see him come out of this as a player that get things done. If we are winning, though, I don't care if he never sees a snap.

Wins baby wins....just kept 'em coming

We didn't trade for Braylon Edwards to give David Clowney significant playing time. I doubt he even sees a lot of slot time, they'll probably motion Keller into the slot before the call Clowney's number. I can see him used in 4 and 5 wide formations, not much else. Unless someone gets hurt or needs a spell.

resign edwards after this year which gives us one of the premier starting wr tandems in the league if he plays to his potential. try to find someone in the chrebet/welker/stokley mold to play the slot. bump brad smith down to 4th wideout/gadet wildcat player and your wr core is set.
