4 games guys 4 games. this is something to talk about in the last quarter of the season or after the season, surely not after 4 games.
I believe this is the first Jet's defense I have ever seen that allowed only 3 TD's through 4 games, allowed no 100 yard rushers, no 100 yard receivers and held the opposing QB's to a 57.0 rating and 1 TD over that span. It's certainly the only team that did that while facing Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Drew Brees. The rushers included NFL leader Chris Johnson. Nobody is looking at the bigger picture here. This team just shut down three of the most explosive offenses in football. New Orleans, New England and Houston are in the top 14 offenses (3, 7 and 14) despite getting mangled by the Jets. That's insane.
Doesn't matter we put a shitload of pressure on the QB and he's getting rocked almost all game , Where about a split second away from about 12-13 sacks this year.
Too soon to tell, but it could be. Unfortunately I wasn't around to see '68 or the Sack Exchange years and I don't remember '98 too well (I was 10, like Mack).
I think if we keep this core together and add some quality depth along the front 7 this defense could be the best defense in football in 2010. Other than on the D-Line, I think all the defensive starters are under 30....a lot of them under 27
I agree, my only concern with this D is that it's aggressiveness has left it open for some huge runs in the last 2 games and it gave up 153 rushing yards against the Saints. If we don't shut the run down this week, we're going to have a long day with this Wildcat offense. Is this the best D ever? No, but it is one of the best.
You have a point. I hope with Pace back it'll improve the run game that much more. Gholston can't shed the block after he sets the edge. Pace can. That's one big plus. I also think that since we aren't facing a team with a legit QB for the next 4 games the run D will be the main focal point. Jenkins and the front 7 will take care of business. And we get our CBs that like to blitz and run stop back as well.
The best defenses I've seen with this team were 1998, 2004, and now. Out of those three, I have to go with this one. It's much more aggressive. I think we have better talent in the secondary than in 2004. Kris Jenkins now > Jason Ferguson in his prime. I like Harris and Scott more than any MLB tandem we've ever had in a 3-4.
That's the best part. The schedule gets much easier for a month or so, and we get Calvin Pace back for it! Even if the defense is figured out a little more on paper, and teams find flaws in it, these players might not be able to execute. I really don't know how any of these teams put up 20 points against us.
True, but hey his teammates gave him the defensive/LB game ball, go figure. I dig how close this team has become and the fact that they have some chutzpah about themselves. I hope that they tear the Fins a new a**
68, 98, 85 and 86, 04 defenses were real good. 68 defense had a great DL and Buddy Ryan was one of the coaches.
the hallmark of the sac exchange was beating the oakland raider (and lyle alzado). some fans hated on gastineau for the same reason some fans today are hating on our mad backer. some things never change. but our d today is beyond special.
I hope our offense can start sustaining some drives because if we continue going three and out, this defense will be tired by the end of the season and possibly lose some of it's effectiveness.
The super bowl defense ('68) was obviously very good. Just look at what they did to the high powered Colts. It was a different game then so it's hard to tell.
YES, so far this is the best D I have ever seent he jets have. Better than the early 80s, better than '04, better than '98. I wasn't around for the late 60s when we had great Ds so some folks from that era can clue us in. Now we need to keep this up, we have had great stretches like this before, I want this D to keep this up.
