I'm not totally concerned about the INTs. The strip fumble is starting to get old at this point.

At the end of the day the reason we moved up in the draft is we need a QB to win games if we are ever going to be a serious SB contender. The idea that you can play great D and win in this league by simply pounding the ball with a 30 plus skat back and Leon Washington is absurd. Sanchez is going to win games and lose games for us its that simple and we have to go through the learning curve which is usually years not games.

With Pierre Thomas back and healthy, we're not going to see the Saints air it out nearly as often as they did in the first two weeks. They planned going into this season to make the run game more of an emphasis, and that's what you saw yesterday. The run game was instrumental to their win last week as well.

As far as our own ball control game, I'm still not sure why Schotty was scared away so easily from using Leon more. He seemed to think the speed of the front 7 would neutralize him without even bothering to find ways to get him the ball. I don't see our offensive gameplan being compromised by perception again this season, but then again, Schotty has surprised us negatively in the past.

Your preaching to the choir... these are things I know:beer: But, I don't expect to rely on him to win EVERY game this year. He needs more help than he got yesterday from the offensive coaching staff, and the running game in particular.

Exactly!! It may have "exposed" everyone to the fact that our defense, even missing 3 starters, will be one of the best in the league this year. Mark had a bad game, I am sure there will be a couple this year. Our season will be riding on our defense, will be fine.

The only thing that was exposed was the fact that if you take chances early with a rookie qb you are going to end up playing from behind and more often than not, LOSING.. The run game needs to be a staple early and often and Sanchez (especially with his current reciever corps) can not be trusted too much this early in his career... BUT I THOUGHT MR SCHOTTY GENIUS knew that? Stick with the run, it will take us where we want to go.. I dont care if TJ and LW average 2.5 YPC for the first 15 combined touches, sooner or later they will break free as the defense gets worn down.. That is how smash mouth is played and that is the style we should default to, until something else is necessary.

We'll end up doing well this season as Sanchez progresses because the D steps up in big situations and holds good offenses, whether they allow 10 yard runs or not, to less than what they are accustomed to scoring. The D will continue to become comfortable with what they're trying to do, Pace is coming back. Every QB turns the ball over multiple times in games, not just rookies. We'll be better than good. Or at least we better, because it seems we need/want WR's and a new pass rusher toy or CB depth when Jenkins will be aging every year we don't pick a NT. And Faneca. We're playin Russian roulette banking on those guys for more than 2 more seasons if we shore up other positions.

Here are things that I took out of the game.

    • We have a rookie QB.
    • The saints have better trenches on offense and defense.
    • We have no pass rush outside of blitzing.

It is unfortunate that we lost the game, but if anyone thought we were going winless this season they are nuts. The saints are a better football team at this point. The season is not lost, although don't expect the Jets to play in the SB this year.

Good observations, I think you meant undefeated not winless. The season is hardly lost. My hope is that the Jets learn from yesterday.

    My obbservations:

    1. We need to develop the running game to take the pressure off of the Kid.

2.Shonn Greene looked good but apparently is hurt again. Not a good sign for the running game

    3. We need to establish Keller, did not happen yesterday and moving the ball was fairly difficult. If anything was exposed yesterday it might be how valuable he is to the success of the offense.

However, after it is all said and done, it was just one game. My hope is that Sanchez remembers how he felt last night when his miscues cost us the game, and works hard to avoid that feeling for the rest of his carreer.

I think we are closer than you think, jil. In today's NFL, things are constantly changing, including players, so it is really the system that makes the team...and I love the system that appears to be in the process of being established. We were a few rookie mistakes (2 by Sanchez, 1 by Jenkins) away from winning the game.

Do I see us going to the Super Bowl this year? No, but if you expected that, even after the 3-0 start, than you deserve the disappointment of your delusions.

    Yeah...misworded.

Shonn Greened looked excellent in comparison to the other backs at that time, if he is hurt again that sucks. Not like he's contributed that much this year, but I thought he was helping that drive at that time.

We absolutely need to find another play maker on offense. I truly believe we are trying to get Keller in the game early. But not having anyone but Cotchery allows teams to focus on the two of them and the running back. Someone has to step up, otherwise we're going to have to simply accept that this year is for development.

Favoritism on this board wont always work in your direction. Youre a good poster jil, but it seems you have a cloudy perspective on the Jets being exposed, which they clearly werent.

In all honesty, I saw your name under this thread title and assumed it would be a good post. (hence the favoritism) This still is probably better then most of the other threads started since the game ended yesterday though.

    jil...

The defense gave up 3 points through 51 minutes of play

Unless you think Sanchez (given yesterdays evidence) is going to turn into the Brett Favre late season interception machine, instead of getting better...that's a hard argument to make.

And when Dan Dumdoof can be heard a half dozen times saying 'N.O. got away with one there...' (I know they go both ways...but does N.O. need the benefit of the doubt..Greer was mugging guys yesterday)

The fact is, I think the Tenn. game was more injurious than yesterday...But still...4 games in and the D has given up 3 Touchdowns...including several 4th and short stops yesterday...

I wouldn't call it criticism...I think most of the points are legit.

But they won't be real, unless we start losing games do to injury..and so on.

I think WR is our weakest offensive spot. But most teams are constantly drafting WR year in Year out in Rounds 3 and above, until they are set. We have not done that.

That's my major problem with this staff...a WR takes 3 years to develop..we have QB. A TE. a bevy at RB...but no stretch the field tall wr. I love JC, and Stuckey...but Mr.August is an attempt to hide the fact that they have not drafted for stud at that position.

And If they are going to use the Clown...than put Stuckey in the slot where he is best, and live or die with DC on the outside with JC.

I think they need (see above) to develop a 3 WR package that leaves Stuckey in the slot, and puts Clowney outside, and live or die with it.

They are not trying to develop any outside deep presence on this team.

I think there is truth to this. The 2009 Jets were born with a great D just like the 2006 Saints were born with a great O.

You're in a slightly better position than the Saints were however. A rookie QB can probably grow much quicker than an entire defense. This game against the Saints should serve as a powerful learning experience about game management. Week in week out, practicing against the Jets D should have him ready on a play to play basis.
