I think it is just his competitive nature, but it is a great way for your starting QB to hurt himself.

Pete Caroll taught his defense how not to expect the fake spike!

    Goddamn clock-clock play!

I think Sancho showed a couple of times yesterday that he does not respect his body as it needs to be respected as a multi-million dollar asset to himself and the team. His first scramble as well as his blocking showed that. Later in the game, he seemed to have made an adjustment, presumably after a drubbing from Schotty Jr., to taking scrambles that didn't end in hits. I hope he continues that trend and realizes he isn't on the sandlot anymore.

Did anyone else enjoy the irony of Schotty's old student vs. new? I hope Sancho learned a few things watching a master like Brees.

The game was against the Lions of all people. The year '70 or '71. Namath was never the same after that. It was the knee.

He could take a lesson from Brees who blocked two defenders on one play; of course the second defender just happened to trip over Bress after he made the first block.

yeah its like basically even just say he hit vilma into sharper and stopped the play around the 20 they still would of added the penalty and it would of be from the 10 or the 5 depending on how much the penalty is... and then its charged to the kickoff which i think when you dont give Washington a touch on the football that hurts us.. When he runs back kicks its offense for us

If I were a Jets fan I'd be more worried about Sanchez breaking his collarbone or separating a shoulder or something on that kind of play. It seemed like 100% frustration, which - if you're a QB - is going to end up with you getting hurt more often than the other guy.

Kudos to the board for calling it like it is and not trying to defend it.

As I said in a similar thread on the topic this morning, terrible play by Sanchez. I worry that this CS is telling him to do it, pehaps to avoid being laid out himself (ints are open season on a QB). Even worse, in my view, is that he goes to Vilma's knees without even attempting to make a play on the guy with the ball.

I was actually unaware of this rule as applied to anyone other than QB's, so I was kind of like "WTF?" when the penalty was called. What's the difference between this, and when a RB does it to block a rushing defender? Defender's knees don't matter?

I agree. I think much like his Ball handling...His open field tackling needs some work.,

    That's twice it's happened.

I think the coaching staff , more so Ryan, is telling him, when you throw an INT someone is going to come gunning for you. I don't think our staff is dirty enough to say hey if it's a pick 6 take out the closest knees you see. That being said,I really think Sanchez runs at the pack of defenders with his eyes closed and just takes a dive.

I don't see this as a Jets CS issue (other than to train him not to do it). This, like his lack of ball protection, seems like learned (or unlearned) behavior which dates back pre-pro football.

I don't like it and would hope that he is fined and told not to do it again. For starters you don't want to intentionally injure another player... Sanchez is not Warren Sapp and he's not 300 lbs. The other thing is if he gets a rep eventually it's going to catch up to him. Karma is a bitch and I don't wanna see our QB leave on a stretcher because he intentionally dove at another guys knee. There is also the penalty factor... every NFL kicker (except Mike Nugent) is going to kick the ball into the stands if he kicks off from the 45 yard line. In doing so you eliminate one of our best weapons. There are so many words to describe how incredibly stupid it is but hopefully Mark gets the memo you can't do this anymore.
