not gonna spread doom and gloom today but we all need to keep things in perspective around here. i was gonna put on the darksider hat last week when i started seeing predictions of 13-3, 12-4, AFC championships, etc etc etc but i decided to stay low and let the game speak for itself.... and it did, big time. the saints are now where the jets WILL be in year 3 under ryan and company. not this year and likely not next year either. the saints have a lot of talent on their roster, more than most teams including the jets, and it is being cultivated by a good head coach and def coordinator....its taken them 3 years to get it togther after having some early success with Bush/payton in their 1st years. IMO the jets will take a similar path. we do have a GOOD team now and we will have success but we are gonna have to fight for that success a little harder than teams like the saints, pats, giants, ravens, colts, etc etc. we cannot anoint the jets an elite team like those above based on a now 3-1 start and a very promising young QB. we just cannot do it, yet. its gonna take 1-2 offseasons to create some depth on the OL, improve the OLB position and improve the WR position. those are the spots that need upgrading for the jets to get where the saints are. in the meantime, the miscues we saw yesterday with our QB should disappear and the skys the limit. again not trying to spread gloom cause there isn't much there. just throwing out a timeline cause we all should have patience and watch the evolution of the team. looking forward to next week cause it will give us an early peek at sanchez's and the teams resiliency. jil
The Jets weren't exposed, jil. That's ridiculous. They lost an away, non-conference game to a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Most of us know that the Jets aren't quite there yet. But exposed? As what, a team that very well could have won that game without a couple of rookie mistakes? That I'll agree with.
The Jets will be ready to take the leap right around the time they'll likely be a work stoppage. Just seems too realistic not to happen.
Um, if by exposed you mean Sanchez gave away 2 TDs in the worst fashion possible while our defense played a tremendous game against a tremendous opponent... yeah, I have to disagree with the premise of your post. The defense will carry this team to a 12-4 season. BTW, the OLB position improves this week with the return of Pace. And depth on the OL has been a nonfactor to this point in the season.
Jets in a year or 2 will be Superbowl contenders for sure. The D is already legit. Just gotta improve the offensive side of the ball. If we can't get a WR in FA we should go for 1-2 in the draft. Benn, Bryant, Crabtree (even tho he is a diva), williams, tate, lafell will be available.
What a shitty thread. The only thing exposed was that Sanchez is actually a rookie. He'd been playing so well we nearly forgot. The defense held the best O in the league to 10 points without it's best pass rusher, starting CB and nickel back.
AGREED! Mark Sanchize had a bad game, that's it. We all knew it would happen. The o-line needs improvement and I think they will improve. Our D has been nasty and now we get our best pass rusher back and other starting CB. Spread the doom and gloom by you, I'm still bright and cheery about this team.
The Jet D was exposed yesterday as a unit worthy of the "shutdown" moniker. That they were on the field too long was the problem. Yeah, Sanchez got exposed as a Rookie but then, didn't we already know that he WAS a rookie? We all knew this game was coming and like Tone said, its a non-conference loss against perhaps this year's SB contender. Certainly a much better team than any the Jets have faced this season. Probably better than most of the teams they'll face this year. We may have been exposed as being "not elite", but you certainly can add one more word to that... "YET"
We have seen some interesting things the last two weeks. Our D had a stretch last week where they were intent on stopping the run and Kerry Collins started torching us. This week we were intent on stopping the pass and the Saints ran on us pretty well. The other thing that's becoming apparent is if you stop Dustin Keller you go along way to making it very tough for us to score on O. Keller is a big liability right now in the running game and when teams take him out of the passing game which the Saints did yesterday, and the Titans did the week before the Jets O has a tough time putting points on the board. I think it's clear that Keller has to be established early and deep to get defenses backed out. I suspect Pace returning who is really versatile will help us stop over commiting on the pass or the run and our D will become even better.
exposed? the saints exposed the fact that we have a rookie qb who is going to struggle. i have to say i think this team is really in great shape as long as sanchez takes this game in stride and uses it to get better. the fact that the game was still in question during the fourth quarter is insane. our offfense handed the saints 14 points and their offense was only able to put up 10. that was an elite offense playing our defense missing 2 key players and a solid contributor. our defense is in the top 3 of the league right now. i don't care about stats or anything our defense is going to make teams claw and fight for that 7 points all year. we will play ugly games like that again this season. if sanchez can get better at protecting the ball those games will probably be wins. i mean is it a shock that sanchez had an awful game? i knew it had to be coming. i was hopeful that he would hold off until a team that our defense could beat even with an awful performance by the rookie. the defense was damn near good enough to beat the saints with no help from sanchez. i believe the saints are in the top 2-3 teams in the league right now. if i am correct about the saints, and our defense kept us in a game with such an elite team i just can't help but be excited about this team. sanchez and the offense as a whole will get better. when they get some consistency the jets will be force to be reckoned with.
Not that people above haven't said this already, but the Saints in the dome are probably one of the toughest opponents to face at the moment. The crowd noise was going to be a problem for a rookie QB and it was. The blitz packages the Saints put together were going to be a problem and they were. The big news is the Jet's defense held Drew Brees to 10 points. That's huge in figuring out where things are likely to stand in December.
Yep, let him take his lumps and reflect on it while the season is not on the line. I think the game yesterday was about as good a result as we could have expected if we weren't going to win. The defense played excellently again and Sanchez found out that just trying to wish the team down the field does not work. He'll be much better prepared for the next tough road game.
I agree with Jil, to an extent. I think right now that the Saints are the class of the NFL and we're going to take our lumps with a rookie quarterback. I think this team is a few years and a few players away, but I still think that I saw this loss coming. Being down Calvin Pace and two cornerbacks is not ideal against the league's top ranked offense. A win would have been a lot to expect, plain and simple. At the end of the day, we're 3-1, with three wins against the AFC. With the way the Texans and Pats have looked, I think it's important that we got them out of the way. By the way, the Pats still have to play the Saints. -X-
It was 10-6 and 3 years ago but yea you're right anything can happen...to say we've been exposed is ridiculous. Our defense played great, Sanchez played like a rookie its gonna happen Some ppl on here are unreal
the only thing that is being exposed is the fact you didnt watch the game yesterday. our defense is elite, with our #2 and #3 CB's out and no Calvin Pace we held the Saints offense to 10 points. Sanchez handed them the game and there shouldve been a couple more runs called instead of passes. shit happens, did any of us expect the Jets to go undefeated? or that Mark Sanchez would step into the NFL and become Peyton Manning within 1 year? let alone that Manning himself was an INT machine for his first couple years. we had a glimpse of a franchise QB, theyre made over time. not in the first quarter of their first season. i have faith in the staff and Sanchez, he had his first "rookie game" if theres anything to be taken from yesterday its that we have championship caliber defense, but we also have a Rookie QB, people forgot that. and we were all reminded yesterday. games over, move on and now its time to shit down Miami's throats.
