Throw out round 3, and I think the jets had a great draft. I'm not saying the round 3 guys stink, it's just that THEY and everyone else thought they were 2nd day material. But I loved the rest of the picks. Perhaps the least appreciated is 5th round TE Pociask--I hope they play him at...TIGHT END (I keep hearing fullback). Of all of Bradway's goofs, his biggest was trading down and getting Jolley. IMO Doug Jolley can't block a high school linebacker. Martin's yards per carry went down from 4.6 to 3.3 for several reasons but CHIEF among them (sorry, Herm) was the loss of blockers Becht and Kareem on the right side. Pociask can block, and THAT is what we need from TE. I agree that Dreesen is a good prospect too, but I think Pociask represents another positive sign that the new front office isn't going to live with Bradway's errors one day longer than they have to. (I wonder if that makes Dwayne Robertson nervous?).

Indeed, I'm also high on Pociask.

From what I've read hes a steal.
My 1st choice at TE is Baker who was one of a handfull of players who showed that he can handle the load.
Don't rate Jolley at all , but then again the whole '06 season was toilet water , How much would it cost us to cut Jolley?

Costs us nothing to cut him-- we got him in a trade, so the signing bonus money he had was from Oakland--they took the hit when they traded him. He is on the books for just over half a million this year.

Actually I think this guy can contribute at FB .. Askew has speed and decent hands ... but his blocking is shaky. At least Baker is a half-way decent blocker at TE.

I agree. This guy will be more valuable at FB considering Baker is both a willing and more than capable blocker. Askew i see more as a situational RB than a FB considering how poor he is at blocking.

You dont draft "blocking" tight ends in the fifth round. The dude didnt even start on his own team.

He his slow as a grandma and cant really catch.

We could have gotten someone like this when we were signing undrafted free agents. We passed on Mark Anderson, Chris Kuper, & Babatunde Oshinowo.

I live in MN and watch a lot of big ten football. This guy is not worth a fifth round pick. His draft day grade was 7th round to undrafted...

This pick on Eric Smith were not good picks.

You are missing the point of this pick. He is not a receiving threat type TE. So he does not get a high draft grade. However, it has been widely stated that he is the best blocking TE in the draft. The Chargers use Lorenzo Neal in a similar role as he will be as a blocking FB, and as a blocking TE in short yardage situations. In that role in the new offense he could be a tremendously valuable addition to the Jets team.

I agree with you on Eric Smith...huge reach. I disagree on the TE...good pick...he can block and I'll take that over Jolley any day. As for when/how you get them, Dallas picked a blocking FB named Darryl Johnston at the start of the second round--ten years later Emmit Smith was the all time leading rusher.

We drafted a blocking tight end in the 1st Round six years ago.

We can probably turn him into a tackle after he gains some weight too
