Oregon does not have the best track record of producing NFL grade QBs. The last two highly touted QB ducks were Akili Smith (please no) and Joey Harrington (please, please no).
He's a bottom 1/3 of the 2nd round QB. To try to say he's going to bust like 2 QBs drafted in the top 3 is not fair. Not to mention Tedford, their old coach, was not there for Clemens last yr and he did fine.
wat was people saying about how oregon qbs dont know how to read defenses is that legit becuase harrington cant. also for people who say clemmons has a weak arm And maybe Clemens, the 49th pick, is a quarterback they can develop. Joey Clinkscales, assistant director of college scouting, said yesterday that Clemens' arm strength was second to Cutler's and ahead of Leinart's and Vince Young's. thats from a newsday article so supposebly this kid can play
I am not commenting on draft placement (although I agree it makes the pain less - but considering we passed on Leinart/Cutler it sure could), but that the last two highly touted Duck QBs dissappointed big time.
yea i heard about the oregon QB thing 2....but @ least we didnt waste a 1st rd pick on the guy....plus i really think our coaching is better than what det. and cinci. had @ that time too....i'm happy with the clemens pick.....
It has less to do with them being from Oregon as having Tedford as their coach. He wasn't there for Clemens.
He is the next Larry Johnson. Johnson put the Penn state crap to rest by going absolutely ape shit last year. Kellen will do that for the QB's of Oregon.
I like the blip about him where it said he takes the control of the huddle. I have mild hopes for him, but maybe for once, we actually get a steal here.
Larry Johnson will set a record for most carries in a season. And that'll be done by Week 9! And don't count on Tony Gonzalez catching too many passes this year!
Two Oregon QBs are in the HOF, Norm Van Brocklin and Fouts....Detroit is a QB graveyard, Harrington isn't done.....
I go to a Pac-10 school (Arizona State) and have seen Clemens the past 3 years. I'll try and do my best and give you guys some insight. The Pac-10 in general is an offensive, high scoring conference. Not much defense is involved with the Pac. So it's kind of hard to judge how good a QB really will be at the next level coming from the Pac-10. Kellen Clemens is the real deal though. He was definitely in the upper echilon of QBs, along with Matt Leinart and Sam Keller (QB for ASU). He's a very accurate passer, and makes his receivers better than what they are. Mike Belotti is the coach for Oregon and has a pretty good track record with quarterbacks. I think we made a solid pick and can have a guy contribute in 3 years or so. I thought the first day (minus the Eric Smith pick) was a pretty good day for the Jets and definitely filled holes we needed to fill.
How can you compare someone taken at thge end of rd 2 with guys that were top3 picks of the entire draft? If he doesn't work out, the impact is nowhere near as severe.
