Other then the Jets, what team do you think had the best draft and the worst draft? I would say that the Arizona did very good getting Matt Leinart, Taitusi Lutui, Leonard Pope, Gabriel Watson, Brandon Johnson, Jonathan Lewis, and Todd Watkins The Redskins or the Bills I think did the worst.
Arizona did great. I actually really like what the Bills did, I always thought McCargo was a first round talent and the 3rd or 4th best tackle in the draft. Drafting Youboty in the 3rd round was the icing on the cake
Texans draft was bad. They pissed off their fans by bypassing Vince Young and Reggie Bush. If it was me, I would have drafted D'Brickashaw Ferguson 1st overall OR traded out of the 1st overall pick. I had been saying that since November. Houston still does not have a good offensive lineman. The only good one they ever had got injured and never played with them (Tony Boselli). Stupid franchise. David Carr will get beat upon once again in 2006.
Ernie Acorsi on with Benigo loves Clemens and loves D'brick and also loved our pick of Brad Smith. He thinks D'Brick is in Ogdens class and Clemens was the sleeper of the draft. He also liked SF draft and surprise he said Buffalo picked players he really liked.
Arizona & Philly had great drafts.. The Bills had by far the worst draft, we should feel lucky that 90 yr old Marv is running that team into the ground..
I actually liked Houston's draft a lot. They are transitioning to the 4-3 and had no true DE or LB and they covered both in the first two rounds with great players. Then to come back and stack the line in the third with a potentially great LT and a solid OG was nice. I also liked the Rams draft because I think they got a great cover corner which they desparately needed and were able to trade back to get him. They got two tight ends but they were value picks and they also needed a good one. I think they got two solid LB which at least one should develop into a future starter and provide great depth. I liked the two guards in the seventh because they are great players and should also be able to start, but they didn't break the bank for them. Finally I think they got a great sleeper type player in Adeyanju at DE. I liked the Cardinals draft because I think they got great value and picked the player that fell to them rather than who they "needed." Unfortunately I think the Pats and the Steelers also drafted well. Maroney and Jackson should develop into future starters. The O'Callaghan pick was a great one, and I think they got a lot of versatile players in Mills, Smith, and Mincey. The Steelers got a great WR, a great returner in Reid (trust me I have seen what he can do and while he may not grab a lot of catches the dude is Dante Hall-esque). They got a fine safety to replace Hope and got great value on Jacobs who may be like a Matt Schaub guy who can develop into a bargaining chip in 2-3 years. Finally I think the Cedric Humes pick was underrated. He is a good power back who I think would have sucked had he gone to any other team but he should fit in real well with the Steelers power running attack and can develop into a Bettis type player (although I admit he will never approach Bettis's production) and will compliment Willie Parker really well.
Philly had a great draft IMO, they sured up their offensive and defensive lines as well as getting a wide reciever which they desperatley needed. I also like the 49rs draft for the most part. They got a TE to help out Alex Smith, and a great pass rusher in Manny Lawson, who might help them cope with the loss of Julian Peterson. They also replaced Brandon Lloyd with Brandon Williams and got a great athlete in Michael Robinson.
I liked their Ryans selection. But the Williams pick I really didn't like. They really pissed off the fan base. Bush should be a major star in the NFL and Williams had better turn out to be Bruce Smith or the Texans will never live this down.
Why is everyone saying the Bills did bad? Whitner is a top 15 talent in the draft, McCargo was the 3rd best DT on many boards, and Youtoby was a steal, a first round talent that slipped to the 3rd. Im assuming its the McCargo pick that everyone dislikes, but this guy wouldve been off the board by their 2nd round pick. He mightve just been the most underrated player in the draft just because he played on a line with Mario Williams and Manny Lawson
The Bills has a horrendous first round taking the two players probably 10 picks before they should have been taken. I think they wanted Huff and panicked and snatched Whitner. I also think a lot of people wrote them off after that first round but they did end up doing pretty well because Youboty and Simpson were great value picks taken maybe a full round after they should have been. So it wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as it initially seemed.
As said before, Philly had the best draft and that the Redskins had the worst IMO. The Bills wasn't as bad as it seems... they drafted 3 guys that will all be starting next year and a secondary of Clements - Whitner - Simpson - Youboty and McGee as the nickel is very good. Not a big fan of McCargo but he is a big run stuffer that they needed desperately. They are determined to build a great defense and they did so, but we're going to enjoy their offense score the least points in the league for a while.
While I'd hardly call the Bills draft great, upon further review they didn't do as bad as most think. For starters the combination of Youboty in round 3 and Ko Simpson in round 4 are absolute steals. Also while I'm still not a huge fan of McCargo, its becoming clear that he would not have fallen to their 2nd rounder. I'd put them at around a C+/B-
Drafts I really like Arizona: Leinart at 10 is a no brainer, Pope and Watson are bargains Cleveland: Got who was considered the best 3-4 OLB prospect (Wimbley) and best ILB prospect (D'Qwell), Oshinowo was a steal that can play NT. Houston: Bush/Mario was a mistake, but Ryans is a good addition and Winston/Spencer provide much needed o-line help New Orleans: Add the best player Philadelphia: Wow, Bunkley, Justice and Jean-Giles talk about solidifying the lines San Francisco: Early predicition Davis and Lawson both win ROTY Drafts I Didn't Like: Chicago: All the issues on offense and they don't take an offensive player until a FB in round 6? Counting the Ricky Manning deal, they used their top 3 picks on DB's. Green Bay: I know Javon wanted out, but if you trade him, how do you pass up on Chad Jackson? Minnesota: Use the pick from Cullpepper on Ryan Cook!?! Considering Brad Johnson's age taking Tavarias Jackson over Croyle could be somethign they regret. San Diego: I like Cromartie and McNeil, but that's a lot of risk there taking both. Charlie Whitehurst in round 3 is puzzling. Washington: Overpaid to move up in round 2, not that I'm going to complain. Overrated Draft: Titans, yes LenDale and Young have great potential, but both are extremely risky. Patriots: I personally think Maroney's a bit overrated. Jackson's a steal at 37. With issues at OLB and DB, I have to wonder about waiting so long to help the D. Underrated Draft: Bills: took a lot of flak for Whitner/McCargo, but both will immediately help at need spots. Youboty/Simpson are steals in the secondary.
