Our running game is hiding behind our mediocre runblocking skills on the oline, last year was similar and we didn't have a rookie QB.
I was going to come in and be an Internet tough guy or douchebag, but I see a few others beat me to the punch. Teams are stacking the box and daring Sanchez to beat them; thus far he has. Having said that, Sanchez hasn't been put in a situation where the team is behind and the offense is on him. I think that the goal of most opposing teams is going to be to do that. This Jets team is a lot like the Ravens, and not just defensively. I don't think the strength of this team is its ability to play from behind. I think teams will continue to test Sanchez until he leads a successful 2 minute drill or has a 40 passing attempts game. FYI, I'm not saying every QB can do what Sanchez has yet to do, but since he's a rookie he'll be tested more.
Thomas Jones runs into people and falls down immediately. What the hell happened to his guns? Leon is more stronger then him.
not hating but i hope the rumors were true about Jones being on the trade block.... on first down when you cant make 5 yards on 2 downs something gotta give..
Adrian Peterson needs no line he makes nothing into something and his cut backs are ridiculous.... we need to find a back like that... people say oh jones needed a better line well we addressed that issue Now what?? yes he is a grinder and he gets his runs off late but we need a home run hitter at any time in the game..
Its partly due to the box being stacked and partly due to our WR's not being respected. Seems like at some point we will have to work backwards and use the pass to set up the run...IMO its less Sanchez and more a lack of respect for the Wide outs
Just like other posters have stated- The box is stacked, also an offense takes more time to gel then any defense. As we rely more on Sanchez the field will open up. It looked easier last year because teams respected Favre's arm right off the bat. Sanchez is still earning it internally and externally. Once that is done, I say- Look out!!
lol Adrian Peterson is a once in a generation type back. Is that all we need? There are more defenders than blockers. You're right, all we need is AP or Barry Sanders to succeed there.
TJ (34 attempts for 161yds) and LW (29 attempts for 118yds) are practically producing the same amount of yards in the first two games (even if you took away TJ's 50+ yd run against the Texans). Our run plays aren't meant to have the RB dance around in the backfield, so when LW pulls them off, it's more individual effort than the line. If you ask me (looking from afar), this is an issue where the OL isn't dominating like it used to last year. Granted, it's only been 2 games, but I can understand the concern for the run game. But we have it. We run...A LOT. It just hasn't been producing like we thought it would. I'm not worried. It'll all come together when teams start respect Sanchez a little more. Pats got hurt by it in the 2nd half, and we won the game. It'll all come together eventually.
I'm not worried. Once teams learn to respect Sanchez, they will not load the box, and the run game will work. I am ready to see Greene though.
I think if we want to go blow for blow with the big dogs Pats, Colts, Atl, etc... we have to have a ground game because the Passing isnt going to always bail us out.. TJ just falls to easy for me ive never seen him while he was a Jet just straight run someone over and just keep going.. You cant blame it on muscule because he has alot of it Can blame speed because it has nothing to do with it.. Its just pure toughness when you need him to just lower the shoulder and say to the opponent FU Im going threw you...
Yeah your right AP is a Generation Back by all means but a guy like Felix Jones is good too.. Marion Barber even a guy like Maurice Jones Drew and darren sproles just play with reckless abandon and run hard maybe its because they feel they have to prove something i dont know.. but if we had a back like that we would be good.. Look at Brett Favre now he doesnt even have to worry as much about blitzing all the time..
Pats and Colts are probably more a pass team, than a run team. We wouldn't go blow for blow with them. ATL is a good run team, but look at what Turner has done this year--50 attempts for 170yds. Basically, you wish you had a RB like AP, or Brandon Jacobs (who can't play a full season since he become the feature back AND RBbC). C'mon man. Have patience.
No one believes that. You should try listening to what people are saying. The two teams we've faced so far have played softly against the pass and stacked the box BECAUSE we have a more proven ground game than passing. It's what happened to the Falcons last year after Michael Turner established in his first game as a starter that he was a dominant running back. They went into the next game and Tampa loaded up against the run, forcing Ryan to try to beat them. He couldn't. It wasn't until Ryan started putting together solid games that teams started to respect the pass, and that was a team that had a dominant receiver in Roddy White. Teams sure as hell aren't respecting Cotchery and Stuckey in that same way right now. Ditto for last year's Ravens. They didn't have a 100 yard rusher until Flacco busted out for 250 yards against the Colts in Week 5. The running game will find itself once teams are forced to leave 4+ in coverage. We're not going to run it as effectively as we'd like against an 8 or 9 man front. As it stands, we're STILL in the top half of the league in Yards Per Carry despite leading the league in carries. I'm really not sure what there is to worry about as far as "the stretch" is concerned.

And what do Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Darren Sproles have in common? THEY PLAY FOR TEAMS WITH A RESPECTED QB. They have much easier running lanes right now. Hell, even Jacksonville is passing the ball a lot, and Torry Holt certainly commands respect down there.
