i'll start by eating crow cause i fully expected the jets to get off to the slow start many envisioned and now am scrambling to re-evaluate my thoughts on the team and its future. had 5-11 penciled in with the rest of the experts and foaming at the mouth to get my crack at some shiny new PSL's for 2010....in fact a few weeks ago, imitating a drunken sailor, i almost clicked away and snatched up a couple, but decided to wait and see how the jets would perform the first few weeks..... well to my surprise we have a 2-0 team that may actually get to double digit wins unless the wheels fall off...something even the ultimate darksider would say is not likely given the performance to date. woody johnson must be thrilled and i am sure he has already seen a mild flurry of interest in 2010 tickets. imagine if we get to 5-1, 7-2, and beyond... even with the sorry ass economy and the dolts overseeing it these days....there will be a point where these tickets get swooped up and the jets wont be crying too much about sales. so my ? to the board is how many of you are on the fence about 2010 and now seeing the quick 2-0 start, are now strongly considering making a significant investment in your team. jil
I was hoping to go to the game in Tampa Bay this year when we play the Bucs in December, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to cancel cause money is so tight right now. If I had the cash laying around though I'd go for it.
2010 PSL Sales Hard to say. I spoke to Jets last week and they are calling season ticket holders right now by seniority. Anyhow, last week they had some PSL Free seats in section 344, 345,346 and 347 in new stadium that were not so bad. Soon they will only have horrible PSL free seats. If the Jets win the Titans game the Jets will make a full frontal attack on calling season ticket holders, by then there may be no seats left in the PSL free zone. After a Titan win they may start moving the 4k and 5K PSLs. However, regardless of if the Jets go 16-0 and win the superbowl the Jets will have a lot of trouble selling the expensive PSL seats. You can buy row one sideline Jets tickets to most games on stub hub for around 200 each today. Why would I pay 20K a seat and 400 a game to buy something I can get for half that price with no PSL fee on Stubhub, makes no sense. Also when I am buying on Stubhub the 200 seats I just buy the games I want. I will buy next year only if I get a PSL free seat or a good seat (top 50% by location) in the 4k or 5k PSL areas. Even at 4k or 5K I know I will lose when I have to sell but not so much. I just can't afford a huge loss.
The Jets are playing so well i will go buy a larger TV so i can watch them next season and beyond. As of last Sunday i am a vocal leader in the section i sit. But i cant justify the cost of a PSL, or higher priced tickets. Not in this economy. Even if the Jets win the ...... ...... Love them, but not going to happen. Maybe one game a season but thats it.
For me, I tried to keep my decision based on a long term financial assessment of the value of the PSL and leave emotion out of it, no matter how the Jets are doing or how I felt they might do with Sanchez. When the moment of truth arrives, and you are getting your call tomorrow morning, for example, you tend to separate the recent W/L record or what you think the future short term W/L record will be (or at least, IMO, that's what you should be doing). This is a huge financial decision and you're better off always leaving emotion out of financial decisions. Always... and no exceptions. I've made many good financial decisions in my life and I've always adhered to that rule. This was no exception to me. If the value was there, I was going to do it (buy the PSL). If the value wasn't there, I wouldn't. And I stuck to that even though I could probably afford to do it, and that was a difficult but necessary call on my part. This is just my opinion and I'm sure others will chime with their opinions, but I honestly don't think anyone should base their judgement on 2-0 or 5-0 or whatever. This is a 30 year deal you're signing up for, not just the '09 season, keep that in mind. Of course, many will not think this way and will not be able to separate emotion from the financial decision. Others will be able to do that and will have enough resources above and beyond considerations like college expenses, retirement, etc. to be able to still afford to do it. And still others will not have the resources but will simply say "Fuck it, I want the PSLs and I'm going to finance them even if I can't afford it." So yeah, my opinion is that there will be an increase in the PSL sales as a result of 2-0 and probably even more of an increase if the Jets are 7-1 at the half. It may even be enought to move all of the crappier PLSs.. I'm talking about the last rows of the Mezz EZs and the like, with people paying the same exact PSL and ticket price for the 23rd Row as others have paid for Row One. But that's the way it will go anyway, because eventually I think they will all be sold despite what my opinions are. But my point is, the fact that we might be 7-1 won't make those purchases any better or worse an investment than if we should go 1-7.
We can go 16-0, I'm still not going to have 20 grand to give to the Jets. My TV is fine, HD is the shit and it's already paid for.
On Sunday, I got my first taste of watching my first home game on my brand new, huge Samsung HDTV with Comcast DVR recording capability. "HD is the shit," as you say. Fast forwarded through all the bullshit and enjoyed the game immensely. The experience solidified my decision to not go with the PSLs. I'll be fine in the Uppers and if I don't like the experience, I'll walk away from the stadium altogether and retreat to my Samsung. Either way, it ain't gonna be tramatic. And the best part is, Woody can go fuck himself.
yeah the organization will seize on any opportunity that's for sure....i got another e mail from the Jets on monday teeling me they'll be calling on 10/2. I'll still only be considering non- PSL seats regardless, but you can bet a few overzealous fans will make some far reaching financial decisions based on the emotions of a current winning streak.....I'm sure the Jets are banking on it
do you have to wait for a call from a jet rep for tickets for next year? Me and my friend bought seats this year in hopes of having a crack at non-psl seats in the new stadium.
I gave mine up. I was buying season tickets from a friend that I worked with for the last four years. Been on the list for a number of years and have paid my $300 ($50 each year on list. I declined the seats for this year cause of financial reasons but i was offered the two seats at $10k PSL costs for next year. Had to decline that too. I am going to miss 137, 11, 3&4 but I can't justify $10k in PSLs plus tickets costs. That's half a year's mortgage, or a semester for my daughter's college, or a down payment on a car.... I love my Jets but my life and my personal finances are more important than 10 trips to the Meadowlands. Besides, like some of the other people have said - I'll hit StubHub or eBay and pick up tickets to a game a year or so. I'll just upgrade my projection Toshiba HDTV to an LCD or DLP and save $8k (which by the way, for a 7y.o. projection TV STILL looks effin awesome !)
That's where I'm at. Keep in mind they are struggling to sell out this season with no PSLs at the old prices, so I'd wait before committing to any money for 2010. If we waited for this year the season-ticket holders wouldn't have had to shell out money in full for the pre-season games and parking by May 1.
Good luck with your call. Follow the "17a Tour" thread above and keep tuned for last minute info, then be sure to leave your feedback as to what you were offered and turned down. This is the chain we've kept going and it's been helping others immensely. The other point I want to make is that 18 months from now there will be a ton of PSLs on the open market... eBay, StubHub, on this board, everywhere. March 2011 is the earliest date you can resell you PSLs, so look for some inventory to be available then, if you really MUST have a PSL.
