IT is clear that Mangini and Tannebaum wanted to select players with good character and leadership skills. Mangold, E. Smith, B. Smith, Shlegel, and Clemens all posess great leadership skills. I just love the type of players we picked, no bs, no off the field problems. We took guys that could lead us for the next 5-10 year. Thoughts?

But there is a fine line here.

Just because they are leaders does not mean that they are good players.

I remember Derek Pagel on Matt Walters were tabbed has leaders, but now both are out of the NFL.

The "leaders" still need to be able to play, and play well.

The only thing I was worried about with Tangini is that they would look for "high character" guys and not good football players. Thats not to say that you cant have the best of both worlds but still you cant block out quality players still on the board just because they dont lead. Not every player is a leader.

Leadership, dedication and high work ethics. They will give you 100%. They might not be good at all facets of the position, but they will be outstanding at playing in special situations. TE for short yardage blocking situations, OLB and SS for running plays and short yardage situation. Most can be standouts as Special Team players....and I think one or two might be the steal of the draft and surprise as all. The kid Davis is case inpoint.
