I think they are sensing a desperation game from the Titans. They are 0-2, and they could easily be 2-0. But on paper the Jets have to shut down one dude on offense - Chris Johnson.
I saw minus 2.5 this AM. Minus 1? Bet the mortgage, and get a free tv. THis will be Jets -6 by Sunday.
2008 in Tennessee: Jets-34 Titans-13 Since then: 1. The Jets have gotten Better. 2. The Titans have gotten Worse. 3. The game is in New York with energized fans. Hmm.
I'de be shocked to see it move beyond -3. Anything above that means Vegas is putting confidence in the Jets offense to win the game by more than a touchdown which I do not see them doing. If they move it to -3.5 or over people will jump all over the Titans and Vegas wants even money on both sides.
Vegas is playing off the lack of respect for the Jets nationally. Remember what the line really is....
The regular line is -2.5. It will not be -6 by Sunday, barring a significant injury. I would be willing to bet on this.
It has nothing to do with the Jets; Vegas (and more importantly, experienced gamblers) knows that the Titans are desperate. This was a team in playoff contention before the season started, and they're a loss away from starting out 0-3 and being completely screwed. Therefore, They NEED this game. We don't. If anything, from an outsider's perspective, there's letdown game potential here. So making the Jets a small favorite at home makes sense here.
I always thought picking lines and writing lines should never be done with one's heart. Boohoohoo the Titans are desperate wah wah wah. Guess what? Best defense in the NFL. Sorry.
You're misconstruing what I wrote. Look at Pittsburgh-Chicago this weekend...Chicago looked awful week 1. Terrible...And Pittsburgh beat what was assumed to be a very good Titans team. So the Steelers were favored by a field goal...Who won? Chicago. Playing from desperation can often help teams. Personally, I'm not sure I'd bet on the Jets giving 1-3 points...This reeks of letdown potential. Furthermore, the lines are only designed to ensure that the same amount of money keeps in on each side...It doesn't mean Vegas thinks we aren't bigger favorites, it means Vegas is anticipating more money than you expect coming in for the Titans because of what I'm trying to explain. Personally, I expect the line to get bumped up to around 4ish because everyone's going to put it on the Jets this weekend because, yes, they're playing like the better team. But if gambling were that easy, most people wouldn't lose.
Depends how you describe easy. If you mean the Jets can't come in unprepared and play half-assed and still win, then I agree. If you mean the Jets can play up to their best ability and still lose, I disagree.
Remember they were 10-0 when we went to their house and slapped the shit outta them... They have revenge on their minds.
mack, it is 2.5. The books that have -1 have it at about -143. It's essentially an alternate line, as if you're buying points.
