I have to say that these guys are doing a solid job. This is one area of the team thats been questionable for years. They may not be the best but if they continue to be consistent, thats all that matters. Feely keeps putting the ball around the goal line on kick-offs and sending them down the center on XPs, with an occasional tackle when its being run back. Good upgrade over Nuge. I will give Weatherford a few more games before I give him too many props, but these guys dont concern me too much any more. I watched Reed pull 2 of kicks on FG's today in their loss to the Bears.....I dont miss that feeling at all!
I thought Weatherford would have a letdown game outdoors in The Meadowlands after using the dome in week 1 to his advantage but he had a strong game today too. Still will be tough to see it in December but so far so good. He's been quality. Feely has been money all around too, while Mike Nugent has been a utter joke in Tampa Bay. Win.
It is? tupa was the best P we have ever had(at least in my lifetime). his last year here he wasn't good but he was hurt all year. Weatherford looks very good so far.
once again it PROVES that you never ever ever spend a draft pick on a kicker/punter..... both are doing solid jobs. jil
While I agree that Feeley has been great so far, I must disagree on Weatherford. he hasn't been a disaster but has been far from good. His punts all seem short to me and the only chance at backing up the opposition went into the endzone. He's OK for now, but ultimately we need an upgrade there. A really good punter would be especially effective with this dynamic defense.
He did great against the Texans but I agree that he wasn't great against the Pats. Feely however has been excellent since replacing Nugent.
Weatherford seems to get a lot of hang time on his punts. It seems like the returner is always calling for a fair catch.
he will do that. i don't know if it was him or the coaching he was getting here at the end, but he looked to have lost all consistency on his punts when he was last here. he was just as likely to kick it 65 yards as he was to shank it 20 yards out of bounds.
I recall that Graham used to punt it 65-70 yards because he was able to put the Australian spin on the ball which would go out of bounds and come back into play. Runners use to have a hard time catching his punts never mind running for yardage afterwards Then for whatever reason Mangini or maybe even Westhoff but I doubt it had Graham change his punting style to kick it like most punters do..straight away. He was garbage after that
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought so. He's been knocked in a few threads lately. I'm not sure what more people expect. He was a Pro Bowler while he was here.
I'm just happy there hasn't been any critical miscues on special teams in general... props to the ball kickers, and ball returners
oh yeah i remember hearing about that. had to be a mangini thing. he would try to fix something that wasn't broken.
Yeah I noticed that. I actually prefer a punter who can hit high than one who has length. Anything can happen on one of those high ones.
