Jets | Pociask takes pride in blocking
    Sun, 30 Apr 2006 17:06:49 -0700

New York Jets rookie TE Jason Pociask said that he was primarily a blocking tight end at Wisconsin and only had seven receptions in college. "I take pride in it, especially when you have good backs to run the ball," Pociask said about blocking.

Jets | B. Smith might not give up QB too easy
    Sun, 30 Apr 2006 11:34:08 -0700

Andrea Adelson, of the Associated Press, reports New York Jets QB Brad Smith might not give up his role as quarterback too easy. Smith was one of the best running quarterbacks in college football and will likely be asked to change positions to either running back or wide receiver. Smith said, "They also said they would love to have me on the team to make plays and that's what I'm coming in to do. I'm a quarterback at heart and it's going to work out the way it's supposed to. I'm a team player." St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan had a conversation with Smith and got the impression he would not give up on being a quarterback too easy. Linehan added, "Brad's heart probably is still on the quarterback side of things, which I understand being an ex-quarterback myself. You're not going to give up that dream and he's proven that he's going to probably start there."

Jets | Mangini sees Ferguson as a unique player
    Sun, 30 Apr 2006 14:10:21 -0700

NYJets.com reports New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini saw the opportunity to draft rookie OL D'Brickashaw Ferguson as too good to pass up. "With my background on defense, one of the things I appreciate the most is a good left tackle," Mangini said. "When you look at it defensively, you're always trying to find a weakness. For us to get a left tackle with D'Brickashaw's caliber and a person of D'Brickashaw's caliber, it's very exciting."

Jets | Smith willing to play other positions
    Sun, 30 Apr 2006 17:01:08 -0700

New York Jets rookie WR Brad Smith said he hopes to be able to compete at other positions, even though he played quarterback at Missouri. "I'm coming in as a team player and athlete, so wherever I need to go," said Smith. "Hopefully I get to play running back and quarterback as well as other positions. It's just being able to compete and get better at what ever I'm doing." Smith added that he sees himself as a playmaker.

Jets | Washington ready to put injuries behind him
    Sun, 30 Apr 2006 17:02:29 -0700

New York Jets rookie RB Leon Washington said he feels healthy and is ready for minicamp. "I have had a few injuries, but I am healed up now," said Washington. "It may have been a problem, my height may have been a problem, or whatever it may be, but I am ready to put all of that behind me. I am really happy right now and I am ready to come in and contribute to the team." Washington added that he has returned kickoffs and punts at the college level.

I also read that there were reports that the Jets were trying to trade for Lee Suggs and Julius Jones during the draft.

Julius Jones? From the Cowboys? Why would they trade him? He's a top young back, I would've loved to have gotten him.

The two reports one B. Smith seem to contradict themselves.

You know we could use that 2nd rounder we got from the Skins to try to acquire a back...Julius Jones, Tatum Bell, and Deuce McAlister may all be expendable at this point...
