On September 20, 2009, we will finally get a Tampa Bay Buccaneers AT Buffalo Bills game. Dating back to their first meeting in 1976, all previous Bills-Bucs encounters took place in Tampa.
The Cakes returns. Nice. It's gonna suck I'm gonna miss Saints @ Eagles. I might come home by halftime for the Cowgirls/Giants game tho. That'll be good. I'm really looking forward to the Monday Night game, Colts @ Dolphins. Manning and Co. is gonna carve up that secondary.
I have to work so I will have to watch these games online, hopefully the streams will be good. Other than the pats and jets game I am really looking forward to watching the bears and steelers.
Saints-Eagles will be on TV #2 on Sunday. I can't decide on the 3rd game, so I'll probably have TV 3 set up for the Red Zone channel.
It's just that these teams have been in the same league since 1976 yet have never met in Buffalo. They've met eight times. All eight games were played in Florida. So we finally see the Buccaneers go to Buffalo and they'll do so in relatively nice September weather. Prior to the *current scheduling format instituted for the 2002 season, the NFL schedule could be very quirky. It never worked out for a Bucs @ Bills game. *The current format is one in which every team plays the 31 other teams at least once at home and once on the road in a period of eight years. This is the eighth and final season of the pattern and the Bucs @ Bills just happened to finally occur in the eighth year. The league has decided to stay with this format for 2010.
The Falcons will be sporting great throwback uniforms tomorrow. http://www.atlantafalcons.com/People/Alumni/Throwbacks.aspx Those are so much better looking than their current crap. That red helmet is one of my all time favorites.
I'll have the Saints game on in the den and the Jets in the living room. In the afternoon, I'll watch the Seahawks-49ers game unless it starts to blow. I'd change to something else as long as it wasn't TB-BUF. I'd rather not watch the Bucs this year.
Second week in a row I get to watch the Giants on regular TV here in Georgia. While I don't dislike the Falcons current sets (I think that they're top-notch given the way the size and shape of a football jersey has evolved, and that the logo is a solid update of a great concept whose execution had become out of date), I do agree that the red helmet/black jersey combo is damn nice looking, and the throwbacks will certainly be fun to see.
There are a lot of really good games today Carolina / Atlanta New Orleans / Philadelphia Houston / Tennessee Seattle / San Francisco Pittsburgh / Chicago Baltimore / San Diego Arizona / Jacksonville Giants / Dallas
If you look at the pictures in the link above (or just wait to see game action later today), you'll see that the helmets have gold stripes down the middle. The Falcons only went with that look for a few seasons. The gold stripes were removed, but the helmet otherwise stayed the same through the '80s. Jerry Glanville took over in 1990 and moved to the black helmets. It may have been '68 or '69 when Atlanta considered changing to a white helmet. There are photos online of the prototype.
Gold stripes were there in an attempt to not piss off Georgia Tech fans, what with the uniforms basically being the Georgia Bulldogs with a different logo.
