I don't necessarily think its a bad idea, per se, it might help the Jets. But it was a pretty pathetic slobbering attempt. I was embarassed when I heard that.

In general, I hate the idea of the 12th man. This is football. 11 on 11. The fans are not part of the team. Nothing screams "weakness" to me than linebackers waiving their arms in the air exhorting the crowd. You're not a cheerleader, you're a football player, go fuck somebody up. If you can't do it without the unfair advantage of crowd noise, that means you can't do it.

As far as the Jets go, they really have no one to blame but themselves if they aren't happy with their "home field advantage." Moving away from your natural fanbase, plus intergenerational institutionalized mediocrity (or worse) will do that to you.

I completely disagree. When a homefield crowd is in a frenzy , it makes it next to impossible for a visiting team to audibilize w/o silent cues - which leads to confusion and penalties. I suggest you book a trip to a bigtime college campus ( LSU/Mich etc..) and tell me crowd noise is not distracting - oh and BTW bring your earplugs.

Also, If the "natural" fanbase didn't sell off their tickets , then perhaps it would be a better gameday experience.

^I know why its done and what it can cause. I just prefer not to see it. I watch football so I can see real football players play football against one another, and may the best man win. Without your help. You aren't much of an athlete.

Which is why you needed to reply to it twice? Let me guess, you weren't matriculating at any of those bigtime college campuses you like to scream your head off at.

Holy crap that guy is a moron.

He should focus more on writing a real article and not wasting ink and paper with his garbage.

He's on 1050 a bunch, he sounds like a slightly handicapped mouse.

So let's see, first you attack me by saying I'm not an athlete, now you question my intelligence. Go watch your pure - athlete on athlete football game in your mommys basement.

It's almost like he's hoping the fans are quiet on Sunday out of spite for the past of the team.

In a football purist sense, I agree with you, but teams have to make and take any advantage that they can get in today's NFL. It's not the game that it used to be. If the Jets have a quiet crowd at home and play in loud stadiums for all of their away games, I think that is a fundamental disadvantage to the team.

^ that would piss me off as an athlete, and i got that in high school. We were an awful team, so no one would come watch, but when we played the top schools - it was pandemonium.

It does annoy you. Its not detrimental to the team, but feeding off the crowds energy is an aspect of any game.

Might as well try to get the 12th man advantage THIS season because next season between empty seats and all the corporate dudes texting twatting and hanging out in the lounge areas no one will be watching and cheering.

You'll be missing those idiots who show up to their seats 5 minutes after kickoff and leave at the end of the third quarter.

ME? I'll be listening on the radio. I gave up my seats and now that idiot Woody can't give them away. And when I'm ready to go to a game, I'll just grab one in the parking lot on the cheap.

^^^It's still a terribly gay thing to do for a professional football player to exhort the crowd and it ought not be condoned. Frankly a 15 yard unsportsmanlike for any player doing it would be appropriate in my opinion. Certainly has more of an effect on the game than taunting or excessive celebration. Ryan begging for support on the radio four days in advance is through the roof burning down the house homo.

If its a disadvantage for the Jets its because a) the Jets are essentially visitors in their home stadium, which is the fault of whatever genuis thought moving from Queens was a good idea and b) people who live in proximity to large metropolitan areas like NYC don't need to take football so seriously in order to validate their pathetic lives by becoming "part of the team."
