Nice write-up. I am hoping Smith is the secret weapon of choice on Sunday. The Pats aren't going to be able to run on us all that well anyway and I'd like to see Smith on Welker and Faulk during the game to take away Brady's checkdowns.
Very well said. I would only add that the O - line could have done a better job at opening some holes here and there, despite Houston stacking the line. As for the 4-6 vs the spread, I think the keys are speed and stunting, to ensure the LBs get to the QB. If you get hits on the QB, that obviously will offset multiple recievers flooding the zones. IIRC, the Giants used the 4-6 alot, and LT was so damned fast that he would get to the QB before they could check to the open reciever. Jets need to do the same.
For New England 1st down tends to be an obvious passing down. The Pats do more passing to setup the run than any team in football right now.
This thread has been the downfall to my note-taking in my macro class, but well worth it. Great job abyz.
There is only one way to beat us, and that's what the Giants did in the SB. You have to get to Brady WITHOUT blitzing, using your regular front men. If you blitz us he will tear you apart. It was not blitzing that gave us fits in the last part of 2007 and in the SB, it was applying pressure without blitzing. I hope the Jets defense rocks this year. Many of us Pats fans didn't think we adjusted to the better defenses properly later in 2007. A divisional foe with a good defense will ensure that doesn't happen again.
It was the Texans' first play of their fourth drive, took place in the second quarter - 12:26 on the game clock. I didn't see it at first, just noticed the helmet go bouncing by.
Awesome post! Very insightful. I never have the time to re-watch Jets games. You are one fucky lucker. Hope the Jets can do the same against the pats.
as much as i love what sanchez did in the game on sunday, he did get away with several passes that coulda been picks..hes just gotta be a little more careful with squeezing it in. Like on the INT, he had leon by himself in the flat with no one within 8 yards of him
