I loved the move with Ellis out to have Pouha at DE. Pouha may not be Jenkins strong, but he can command doubles. Having Pouha and Jenkins as 2 of the 3 make our DL freaking enormous. I want to see more Pouha at DE with Jenks in the middle. Ellis Jenks Pouha. That is nasty.

Douglas did a great job yesterday and he had another tackle for loss which he is known for.

if Pouha and devito can stay consistent with being good depth on this team, its going to help.

if this defense stopped the 3rd best offense from scoring any points yesterday without their best OLB and DE from last year, what the fuck is it going to look like when they both return.

I feel bad for Miami and Chad Pennington.

I will make this prediction right now - Pennington's injury year is like clockwork, and it will be a Jet that knocks him out in week 5.

What about Ropati Pitoitua? That guy is a giant...

6'8 310 rotational defensive ends don't come along too often. He'll definitely have a role on this team.

I can't wait until Ryan has another off-season to bring in plenty of more talented players - guys will want to play for him.

Even DeVito is known for his incredible strength. The Jets defensive line has silently become a very enormous unit. Ellis might be one of the smallest members of the unit at 285, and that's saying a lot.

Jenkins, Ellis, Douglas, Pouha, DeVito, Green and Pitoitua make a very good DL. Except for Jenkins and Ellis (who is 32 though) none of them is known for their incredible talent but by rotating them a lot (to keep them fresh) I think they can be very producitve... of course Ryan's schemes help but we must say kudos to them for the effort

PS between Pouha and Green I think I prefer the latter though...

Ryan, Sanchez and the new facility has made the Jets an attractive place for Free Agents every year.

Even an 8-8 year wouldn't change any of that.

You beat me to the punch Mr. E.
There were a couple of plays where I said "who the hell is # 79???"
He bull rushed 1 OL backwards so fast & bad that it looked like the Texan punted his kitten before the game.
Ryan got everyone playing at some point in the game & I'm not talking about Special Teams. Love the rotation & fresh bodies ---- its a long season.

And people here thought we were thin on the DL. I would still like to find nice NT to rotate with Jenkins, but how many teams actually have that luxury besides maybe the Patriots? I said we would be fine without Pace and Ellis against the Texans. Ryan's schemes are what makes this defense. Talent comes second. Next week will be tough. Glad to have Ellis back for that one. RoPi will get significant # of snaps against the Patriots to keep our DL fresh. They'll need those small rests.

Nobody has that luxury. Because the Patriots had that luxury, they did the only smart thing to do which was to switch to a 4-3. You just don't leave NT talent like that on the bench.

    Jenkins 360 (wow :S)
    Pouha 325
    Green 320
    Pitotitua 310
    DeVito 305
    Douglas 290
    Ellis 285

Interesting fact: Our biggest player (Jenkins, 360) weighs exactly 2 times our smallest player (Coleman, 180) :p

Mangini was a huge stat guy. He'll tell you the success % of blitzing on specific downs with specific yards to go. Like a robot. He also liked to line up his LB directly on the gap where they were going to blitz. Once teams figured out Mangini telegraphed his blitzes, it was all down hill from there.

I'm sure there will be teams that will catch on to Ryan's schemes, but he's gone on record to say he changes the blitzes week in and week out. Same formation, just a different blitzer. Fortunately we haven't had to witness him making mid-game or halftime adjustments yet, so there's that to look forward to this week coming up. I'm sure there will be plenty.

Ryan's blitzes are going to be much more difficult to read since he is so good at hiding his rushers. He likes to run delays from multiple tiers. I remember one play yesterday where I saw three guys go in, each one on a successive delay.

They had that overload blitz with Lowery, Strickland and Rhodes(?) for the Lito pick. I remember seeing that same exact play last year in the Playoffs, when the Ravens kicked the shit out of the Dolphins. He fooled Chad into thinking it was going to be 1-on-1, WR vs CB, but he actually ended up having Safety help over the top. I believe Ed Reed ended up picking that one off. In this instance it was Shep who had Leonhard providing safety help over the top. I saw that shit coming from a mile away when I saw that formation again yesterday.

I saw the delayed blitzes as well. This defense is exciting to watch.
