I've been on a tour of the new stadium, I was also at the Cowboys/Titans pre-season game. All I can say about the new stadium is "WOW"! I took plenty of pics, but I can't post any of them until my post count hits 50. As soon as it does I'll be happy to post some of the pics I took. I sat in the upper deck right on the 50 yard line during the game. That humongous HD video board was, quite literally, right in my face. My pics, which I will post as soon as possible, give a good impression of just how big that thing is. Meanwhile, when I took the tour I couldn't help but notice that the whole stadium seems to be dominated by luxurious clubs and lounges. I will post pics of these as well. In fact, the only areas that seem to have regular concourses are the SRO "party pass" tiers and the nose bleeds. Another thing that got my attention was the sheer number of HDTV's in this place. They're everywhere!!! More than 3000 with another 2000 on the way!!hmy: Honestly, I don't know where they're going to put another 2k HD screens. Every wall in the place seems covered with them. I know the Boys' did a deal with Cisco for their StadiumVision technology, but MAN!!! This is waaay overdoing it if you ask me.
That was your first ever post on this board? Are you doing market research or something? And for who?
Yes, I'm new to these boards. Everyone here had their first post at some point. No, I'm not doing any market research. I'm a regular poster on several other message boards. Including the Cowboys, Eagles, and Redskins boards. Though, admittedly, I haven't posted on the Cowboys or Redskins boards in awhile. Most of the time I post on the Eagles boards as they seem to be better all around boards than most I've visited. As a Cowboys fan I'm curious as to the reaction of fans around the league on the new Stadium. Since the Jets/Giants will soon have a brand new facility of their own, I figured who better to talk with.
I have not seen much of it, but I know already that I'm not a huge fan of the scoreboard. Its jsut too much for me. The Clip on the worst seats in the stadium was an eye opener to me. To have a seat in that staduim that can not see 80% of the feild is a joke.
Sounds genuine, then. I love in San Antonio, and my female is a Cowboys fan, so I end up seeing all of the Cowboys games as well as the Jets games. I saw the Cowboys preseason games this years and I have to say that I have never seen anything like the new Cowboys Stadium. When they panned around the stadium, the first thing that came to mind was the Roman Coliseum. I can't stand Jerry Jones, but the guy knows how to overdo it if it needs to be overdone. The kicker was when they said that you could put the Statue of Liberty, pedestal included, inside the stadium with the roof closed. The true overkill was the ridiculous giant screens in the middle of the building, distracting fans from the action on the field. I think that was such a stupid idea. I think Aikman said at one point during that first PS game that he saw more fans looking up at the screen than he did looking at the field. People don't shell out that much money to sit in a stadium seat and watch TV.
The everyday fan doesn't need all the fancy crap. A good seat at a decent price is all that is needed, and good parking. On the other hand, box seats bring in the big bucks.
It will be sad when that monstrosity sits there unused because the owners and players all wanted more money.
they had jerry jones on build it bigger and i believe he did research or the most often heard want/complaint was that fans wanted to feel like they were at home watching on tv. so thats what he decided to give them. it does have things from all sorts of stadiums and they really did do quite a bit of research into how to build the stadium and what to include. when i look at what they did vs. what the jets and giants did i have to ask why there wasnt as much attention to detail put into the new meadowlands? i did not realize they have seats that cant see 80% of the field. they did do a piece on the field level seats which i really thought were the dumbest thing ever. hmm lets stand 40 feet away from the field with about 100 people standing directly in front of us. yeah that sounds like fun.
That giant video board has been given a name by the European media who attended the Chelsea/Club America soccer match held in the new stadium. They're calling it "Telemanjaro". Whatever the hell that means. As far as the obstructed view seats go, keep in mind that the seats in this stadium are configurable. The seats themselves are attached to rails and are designed so that they can be easily removed. Jerry Jones has stated that seats with serious obstruction will not be sold for Cowboys games and will likely be removed and relocated to other areas. Not one single seat is permanent. You have to keep in mind here that new stadiums often run into this problem as support members change from design to construction. The new Cowboys stadium is, by no means, the only stadium in the league with obstructed seating. Even the new Yankee Stadium has a number of less than desirable seats. If I'm not mistaken, about 1000 or so have their view seriously hampered by a restaurant.
