http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4446302 Source: Pats release backup QB By Adam Schefter Quarterback Andrew Walter was informed the New England Patriots are releasing him, an NFL source said Friday. This means that rookie quarterback Brian Hoyer has, for now, won the competition to be Tom Brady's backup. Hoyer was impressive in the Patriots' regular-season finale against the Giants, and the Patriots are not expected to trade for or sign another veteran QB.
I bet they get feeley, expecially now that vick is only going to miss 2 weeks. Ben watson for feeley perhaps? seems to make sense both teams get something of at least moderate value for a guy They would otherwise have to consider cutting
Belichik has balls. He cut two guys who knew his system to keep one who just arrived. With Brady's surgically repaired knee that means one of two things: either Belichik thinks Brady is going to survive the meatgrinder coming his way or he's doing the thing Parcells did in 1999 and throwing the season to the fates to decide.
BB will sign a vet QB unless Hoyer really is good. Once he got a few plays under his belt, he was fine. Yes, it was the Giant's backups, but the Pats had their backups playing also. He made the most of it. Having Brady as a mentor will help his development in reading defenses. He has a nice arm and has a baseball players slide after his scrambles. Mildly surprized and he must have something or BB wouldn't have dumped O'Connell AND Walter so quickly.
Or else BB is rolling the dice that brady stays healthy. They traded thomas and dropped Alex Smith and picked up a blocking TE who weighs 30 lbs more than either. That tells me they want to keep Brady healthy.
