I posted that months ago but I still believe it.

Tackles in football are like saves in baseball. They mean nothing and tell you nothing about how good the individual player is. D'Qwell Jackson led the league in tackles last season, Eric Barton led the Jets in tackles.

That should tell you all you need to know about tackles as a stat.

Never mind the fact he's bowlegged as all hell.

Oh, just like Ray Lewis? He is the best LB in the game, yet had been one of highest producing LB in the NFL history. Its all about how the LB performs, not the other way around. Sure enough Ravens had other play makers, but Ray still lead the team in tackles or was close to it every year.

if harris leads the league in tackles it is because jenkins and ellis are not doing their jobs. and we all know that will never happen.

You are correct. Tackles are a subjective stat, where are these tackles taking place? if he's leading the league inn tackles at or behind the LOS then that is great but getting a million tackles 5-7 yds down the field doesn't impress me.

Sorry Kenny, that's actually not true at all.
In a 3-4 it means the D-Line is doing their job and occupying blockers which allows the LB's to make plays.

Harris is an absoulute beast. I think he will lead the team in tackles for sure. I think alot of people forgot last year how good he really is. Rex would never let him be traded so I am not even worried about that. And Harris and Scott witll for sure be the best duo in the league. He is also a very good pass rusher as well so I am sure he will have atelas6 6-7 sacks.

Tackles are subjective, where are these tackles taking place? I get in this argument all the time w/ Dolphin fans b/c they think Zach Thomas was as good as Ray lewis and brian Urlacher b/c he had so many tackles.

    Health

Isn't a prerequesite for leading the league in tackles playing in damn near all 16 games? In which case, Harris will not qualify.

You can say this with just about every stat in football. I cannot stand debating with people and all they do is talk about stats. "Well Player A had more rushing yards than Player B, so Player A is better" I hate that kind of logic. I wouldn't go as far as to say that tackles are a meaningless stat, but stats in football don't mean as much as stats as in baseball. There is a story behind every number in the stat sheet, and that is what is actually important. For example, a QB avoiding a sack and rolling out to throw a TD on the last play of the game is a great play, but the only thing that is recorded is a TD. That TD means a lot more than a screen pass to Leon Washington that goes for 80 yards and a score, but on the stat sheet they are the same.

Actually, if Harris leads the league in tackles that means that Jenkins and Ellis are doing their jobs perfectly and allowing the linebackers behind them to get to the ball carrier while they occupy blockers up front.

although ellis wasnt in, his team allowed him to do what he needed to get a heady dose of stats to his tally.

    What a game for Harris
