I'm scared at how out of sync the defense was. too many false start, encroachment, etc. penalties. They do that against the Texans and they will get lit up. That offense is too nasty for the Jets to commit 12 penalties and still have a lead. If that was the Texans offense they'd have scored 31 pts.
I think when you look at the first 2.5 quarters (when the starters were in) there were some clear positives and negatives PROS -Sanchez struggled a little early, but he showed resilience and ended up playing a great game. Keep in mind this is only his 3rd preseason game, and he looked much better than I would have imagined at this point in his career -WRs. Now I'm not saying our WRs are great, or even above average, but they came to play. Stuckey and Cotchery looked good. For a run first team, I think we will be okay with what we have. I would like to add another WR, but I really don't think it's a bigger need than OL/DL depth. They exceeded my expectations, and looked great with YAC -Gholston showed some flashes last night. He still needs a lot of work, but he is improving - We won. The Giants are a great team and we held our own CONS - defense: Looked like we were calling a very vanilla defense, hopefully that will change. Lito looked awful. Pass rush was non-existant - penalties: no need to say anything here - punting: just awful
A transition year isn't so bad for me with Sanchez learning for the long term. If they catch a fire and win more then expected it will be a bonus. As for reality I can see 6 or 7 wins this year and can imagine how good Sanchez might be 3 or 4 years from now as the Jets hopefully become one of the NFL's best teams. My guess is the team will improve such that the one that ends the season will be much better then the one that opened it.
hehe I can understand about the defense mechanism. I'm with you on being pumped for day one. Then we'll see how things play out, but this year is first building for a future with a very good young QB, and possibly winning a lot of big games with a attacking defense. I can't wait.
I'll say one thing...Darrelle Revis is fucking great. The ball went in his direction maybe twice. I was playing poker, so if it was more than that, I missed it. But it is frightening how good he already is. We haven't had a corner this good since Aaron Glenn. Lito Sheppard better start sharpening his game. There's going to be a bulls-eye on his back.
Yeah the Giants KNOW Lito and just gave everyone the blueprint vs JETS. It won't be a doom and gloom season but we're in for a tough first 4 weeks.
I have no expectations whatsoever. In fact, I don't suspect the Jets will go more than 6-10, but if they do, great. If they don't, I won't be looking to jump off a stool with a rope around my neck. I went to bed last night excited about the future, not so much for 2009. It's the first time I've felt like that in a long time, and it's far different than the usual excitement that's there every year just because the new season is about to begin. Sanchez is going to have some awful games, but he showed me what I wanted and needed to see. I feel confident that he'll learn from his mistakes - and he'll make plenty - but it's uphill from there. As long as everyone stays healthy this year, I'm good with the learning curve. And then some. C'mon, since when have we felt truly excited about the potential of our QB? How about never? On another note, David Harris made a couple of great plays last night. He's such a badass. God, I really want to punch Calvin Pace in the face. Harris would be set loose like a mad dog. That picture always kills me.
I'm very worried about this season. I hope we can at least make it to 6 wins. At least we're better than the jills though.
Wait, maybe you're onto something. Maybe he really means that our season will be extended into the postseason... maybe he means we're going to win the Super Bowl...
Once the Jets go 12-4, we'll admit you back into the sunshiner club... every Jets fan deserves to be happy at least once in their life.
if the Jets go 12-4 there will be a big tribute paid to you in my sig for all of eternity. A small part of me wants that to happen because it would be a 1st round bye for the Jets
Thank you... I really do believe the Jets are going to have a great season. I've never seen a more talented Jets team ever, and I think even though it might be a bumpy road in some instances, it'll be pleasantly surprising and will "stun" all of the haters and doubters out there.
I think by 2011, Sanchez will be on fire. With only 16 collegiate starts, he is bound to improve big time and he already looks decent enough to start in the NFL. The future is bright for sure. If we somehow end up with a pro bowl WR soon, we'll be in good hands. I believe a solid WR will be the only thing holding us back from the playoffs this yr. If Stuckey and Clowney can step it up a notch, we can be set.
The matter of fact way in which you believe to 12-4 is admirable if not borderline insane... ...that being said I think we'll be playing meaningful football in December.
Realistically, I'm not expecting alot this year from the Jets so anything I get will be a bonus. I'm approaching this year as a transition year from the Mangini Era to the VonRyan era and as such, growing pains are to be expected. I would look at 7-9 as a good season out of this group given strength of schedule, new system, new CS. I'm hoping tanny doesn't do anything crazy and just lets this season play itself out for evaluation purposes. Still in all, having a losing season and a great 1st rd. pick in 2010 isn't that bad an option IMO.
