We came into the draft with our biggest needs at RT and OLB, and we still havent addressed them. Not a good start. Ryan O'Callaghan is the only player capable of coming in and immediately starting. As for OLB, I dont really see anybody at all that could be an immediate contributor. Still pissed that we took two freakin John Does instead of guys like Darnell Bing and Ko Simpson. Its not at all likely, but Id still really like to see Bing in green. Watson I dont care for, and I can see why Gilles fell. But taking Eric freakin Smith over Simpson and Bing is ridiculous
you know whats crazy a bit today, the draft the texans had, i cant believe they got the fucking draft they did they got the hands down best DE by far in this draft (there is a monsterous drop off of actual DE specifically for a 4-3 in this draft after mario), a really solid LB, and two starters for their offensive line (winston can become a top 10 LT, and spencer should grow into one of the better guards in the league)...they may take ko simpson in the 4th because they need help at S, and well their draft looks awesome (though of course it could suck because you never know until about 2-3 seasons of play time for the picks)
John Doe #1 finished second on his top #5 ranked team in tackles, playing along side 2 first rounders at his position. John Doe #2 led his team in tackles, more than doubling the next guy on the team. A team that beat ND.
I think we're ok at RT. With Jones, Clement and Teague, somebody should be able to step up and hold down the RT spot.
You seriously think one of our 2 biggest needs was OLB? Please. Our needs were OL #1 which we upgraded CONSIDERABLY. We needed another QB for the future and got him. Adrian Pilon Jones may be able to get back on the bench where he belongs, and at the same time, we can put Kendall back at guard, with Mangold at center. We're set on that side. The other side may be a little questionable, but at least our QBs won't get blind sided. Now we do still need a NT... As for your analysis on guys, I'm going to give the professionals the benefit of the doubt for now.
OL was a need...RT specifically. I dont mind Brick or Teague but we already have capable players there, players tha can hold the fort. But we have nobody at RT. Clemens I like Im no scout, but Tanny's no professional either. Has no experience scouting players and just looks lost in the process
Smith was a ridiculous pick. Boobway drafted 5 safeties the last 3 years--we don't need any more. We need to get a NOSE TACKLE.
I agree with you. Our best OLB coming into the draft was Bryan Thomas. I am less concerned with RT but was hoping we could draft an impact OLB that could start on day one. I share your anger after todays draft. I was very optimistic after the first two draft picks and the trade down with Washington. But they FO completely collapsed. It does not give one much hope for tommorow or the future.
Hobson and Barton are a good set of outside linebackers. Hobson holds up well at the point of attack. He's underrated by this board, because they son't realize that the strong side LB doesn't typically rack up the gaudy stats. MLB and WLB are the positions that typically make the majority of tackles.
Sorry I beleive he was talking about the 3-4 not the 4-3 when he posted we are in need of a OLB. Barton is projected as an inside LB in the 3-4 and many people if not most do not think Hobson is athletic enough to play OLB in the 3-4. Most likely why Thomas is atop the Jets depth chart at OLB.
Why does it not give much hope for the future, we were not going to make the playoffs this year regardless of how well we drafted. We have 2 second round picks next year, we could address the needs of OLB and NT next year with those picks or through free agency. I would say the future looks bright.
Sorry, what I meant was todays performance by the FO taking 3 players 1-3 rounds early leaves little hope that they can perform any better in the future.
In the 3-4 Barton would still stay outside. If anybody would've moved inside it would've been Hobson. As for athleticism, I believe you need to be more athletic to be a 4-3 LB than a 3-4. In the 3-4 you need to be stronger and more physical.
