The Jets could have taken Leinart at #4, Mangold at 29, and Lendale White at 35, they would have lost out on D'Brick, but the trade off would have been Leinart over Clemmens at QB, and Lendale White at 35.... ugh.... I'm not saying the Jets didn't do well, but...ugh...
then Leinart tears his rotator cuff again this year and we then have two highly paid franchise QBs with messed up throwing shoulders.
i actually wish they would have gotten winston justice for rt and then traded up for KC i dont care about not getting a rb or wr, i would have like 3 oline.
That's a possibility but who's to say that D'Brick won't blow out a knee or something? I understand that Leinart has had an injury in the past, but come on.... nobody can predict the future. I am not upset at what the Jets did, but I think that getting Leinart, Mangold, and White is better than getting D'Brick, Mangold, and Clemmens on paper. The Jets were in position to do exactly that and didn't.
I would've even been happy with D'Brick, Mangold, White and Clemens with a later pick. I don't see how that would've been impossible.
Hey, here's a crazy idea... maybe they didn't like Leinart? And considering they were the ones who spent hours testing him, and even more hours studying film, and several other teams who needed QBs passed on him as well, just MAYBE these guys might know more than we do?
I am just taking it that the Jets were sold on Clemens before the draft. And concidering the fact that Minnesota, San Diego, and Kansas City all took QB's basically right after the Jets pick, there's a good chance that he would have been gone. The Jets realized that and traded up. What it comes down to is that I'm guessing that the Jets think that Clemens is a franchise QB that nobody knows about, and it cost them a lot less to get him than Leinart.. If he sucks than oh well. They went safe while at the same time taking a risk. I don't have a problem with the pick at all, but damn....they could have had Leinart AND Lendale White, while still getting Mangold at 29......damn.
I'm not saying that they didn't have reasons, and I am sure they know more than I do, since the only time I've ever seen Clemens play, is on the video that ESPN showed of him after the Jets drafted him... I do however think it's fair to come on a message board and express my opinion. I mean, if all there was to do was go "the Jets FO knows best", then what's the use of the message board? I am not displeased, and understand the picks, but I still see what could have been, and damn.....
Who do you think was a better pro-Warren Sapp or Kyle Brady? Im not saying your wrong about Leinart-actually i rather D'brick over leinart but im just saying despite hours of studying players-GMs dont always know more than the fans
And since when is Kyle Brady = D'Brick? This is a new era with a new GM and HC so you cannot bring guys like Bryan Thomas and Jon McGraw to the table anymore.
During the draft they were talking on the NFL Network how White wasn't a hard worker, and we all know from Mangini's own words that he wants hard working team players. That's why I think we didn't take him. Also we weren't the only ones to pass on Leinart so that also tells me something!
We were the only ones in the top 10 with a need for a franchise QB other than the Raiders(Aaron Brooks?? ehhhh....no), and I figured that the Raiders would take Cutler. I can't stress enough that I am NOT upset at what the Jets did, but still....Leinart, White, Mangold, and whatever at the end of the 3rd round?? damn...
Minnesota drafted a center then traded up for a QB, San Diego and KC both drafted after the Jets initial 3rd round pick. Not saying he would've fell but there was a decent chance.
DBrick was a great pick. I rather have a good QB with a great LT then an ok OT whos still learning the position and a great QB.
