Hey -- at least we made the right decision about cutting this bum.
I just dont understand this one ---- how can you go from "booming" it in college & hitting 50 yarders & then just laying eggs in the NFL.
There's plenty of pressure in the Horseshoe.
Maybe their fields are actually shorter & no one is saying anything.
Maybe its something w/these Ohio State guys.

    Good riddance.

Even though incumbent K Matt Bryant (hamstring) has been sidelined for about three weeks, Mike Nugent hasn't been able slam the door on their kicking competition.
Nugent has made just two-of-four field goals in the preseason and his kickoffs have just been average. "We still haven't kicked two, so we're not having a competition right now," said coach Raheem Morris. We still think Nugent will win the job, but he's not draft-able in the Bucs' offense anyway.

I said in another Thread last week, that I just don?t get how those Kickers Punters can be studs in Collage and not cut it in the NFL, it just doesn?t make any sense, there?s no transition or anything, it?s just beyond me. (yeah, i know the balls are a little differnt, but still)

mental side of the kicking game is what makes Vinatieri and Nugent different people.

I liked Nugent. Drafted a little high...but I liked him. Too bad he choked.

So they don?t have a simular pressure kicking that rock in front fo 80.000 in collage?

btw, I think nougatieri is one of the most overrated player in the leauge right now, he was average at best his last two seasons.

    Most definitely.

I think Nuge is a good enough kicker though and I don't see Feeley as much of an upgrade.

I noticed you forgot to put a smiley face at the end of your post, so I went ahead and did it for you. This way, everyone knows you're joking when you post stuff like this.

Jeez what a nightmare that turned out to be.
Dropped down from the 1st round to get Oakland's 2nd round pick along with Doug Jolley.
Drafted both Mike Nugent & Justin Miller in the 2nd round.
Not 1 of the 3 players are still w/the team & all 3 are almost out of the NFL entirely.

just for two seconds imagine Dustin Keller and Heath Miller on the same team.... that would be intense!

  16. I'm w/ ya man.

By all accounts, Nugent is considered one of the best college kicking prospects to enter the draft. He had accuracy, power, was team captain his senior year...and hit an incredible number of long distant clutch kicks for a champion contending team.

He just somehow lost all leg strength when he got to the NFL.

As much as I dislike them, only the Raiders could waste a high (1st) pick on a kicker and have him turn out to be something worthwhile. Still, no kicker is ever worth a 1st.

Kickers do won and lose games for you, I think people undervalue them. When we drafted Nugent we just had a promising season ended by a crappy kicker. I can see the wisdom in where we took him, especially at that time considering the team we had, but he didn't pan out. When you look back, right off the top of my head, our 2000, 2001 and 2004 seasons all came down to one kick in the final game. Nugent looked good for Tampa the other night, but Feely was real good for us last year.
