Ask yourself one question and give an honest answer. If you wanted an opinion on college Defensive Back talent right now from someone in professional football, is there anyone you would approach BEFORE Nick Saban? Seriously, is there anyone here who thinks they know college DB talent better than Nick? If you gave an honest answer, than how about we give Nick the benefit of the doubt and consider that he just MIGHT know a bit more about the subject than anyone here on this board? Hmmm?

I think that Saban is one of the best coaches in football, but that doesn't mean that he can't make mistakes. If you are judging solely on Allen's college career it's hard to justify this pick.

If your going by the theory of football coaches have more football knowledge than the fans ,then we shouldn't be debating anything done in football at all.

I know nothing about Allen but he sounds like a good player...but i'd be worried about the reports of him failing a couple of teams physicals.

Haha. I thought there would be one :12 second clip of it. But he got manhandled by Ronnie plenty of times. Nice.

Why do you care so much? He probably will become a very good player in the secondary especially since he's being coached by a defensive backs guy. That was a great pick for Miami IMO.

It's okay. Don't get all worked up about what a few Jets fans were doing. You can stop crying now... :)

Lol. Ronnie dislocated Champ Baileys shoulder last year. He's rough on DB's. The nice thing about that video is that it shows how good Ronnie is. Any time he's matched up against a CB or Safety you'll probably get the same result.

Lol...Hey, just trying to inject a dose of reality into the daily Phin bashing. But have no fear, you guys seem to have a coach with a good head on his shoulders. NFL teams live and die with their O-lines and he seems to recognize this fact.

Oh yeah. It's a shame that Auburn never got a crack at the National Championship, because now very few people will remember one of the if not the greatest runningback tandems in college football history.

I laughed at it because I had no idea how they passed over Winston Justice and several good CBs and WRs in favor of a safety.

Same reason all 32 teams passed over Justice. As for the good WR's and CB's still on the board, Allen was rated a top 10 talent, so Saban was happy to see him available.

Honestly, if the Dolphins didn't select Allen at 16 he would surely have gone to the Cowboys 2 picks later. So it wasn't much of a reach at all. But if you're a Dolphins fan, you can't help but wonder if you missed out on the guy the FO was really coveting [Tye Hill] one pick earlier. Now you have to rely on Will Allen being your starting LCB for at least another 2 years. Trust me when I tell you the guy will drive you nuts. This is coming from a guy who has seen every single NFL down he's ever played.

Jason Allen isn't even being rated as CB, he's being looked at for Safety where we have need. We're already three deep at Corner. Don't forget Travis Daniels and Will Poole. If Will Allen doesn't perform he's relegated to the Nickle. Further, he isn't making so much money that he couldn't be replaced next season.

Ok, I think you missed the point of my original post. I realize Jason Allen was always projected to start at safety, that's why I made the Cowboys comment. As they need a safety desperately. Not sure where or why you veered off in that respect. I was just saying Tye Hill is a much better overall prospect than Allen. And counting on a guy like Poole who missed all of last season with a serious injury and Daniels--who let's face it, needs alot of work--does not exactly put the fear into opposing offensive coordinators. The fact is you can never have enough CB's. And while your need at safety was great. Hill was considered on many boards to be a much better overall prospect. You don't think Saban would have at least considered taking him if he was there at 16?

Probably. The thing is, with so few picks in this draft we couldn't afford to move up. If Saban had him ranked higher than Allen than I'm sure he would have taken him. But the flip side is that we are deeper at Corner than we are at Safety. And Poole and Daniels, while still young and a little green, are working with possibly the best Secondary coach in the NFL. And so for that matter is Will Allen. Lets see what he can do with a full preseason under Saban before passing absolute judgment on the man, hmm?
