Mangini is in way over his head as an NFL coach.

I am liking his attitude. I originally thought he was a me-first kind of guy after some of his quotes about how he doesn't want to block after last year's draft. Now, it is clear that he's a worker and wants to do his job and benefit the team in all aspects of the game. I hope he can become at least an average blocker so he can be on the field more.

I wish they hadn't brought up the drop in the Niners game though. Even though the Jets didn't really show up that day and him making the catch likely would not have meant we'd have mae the playoffs or even won that day, it still stings....

^ what stings is shaun hill and a shitty WR corps and no Frank Gore looking like the Montana-led 49ers.

To be fair, the OC is still here. You would think one of them would be able to make those counter-adjustments.

i'm convinced mangini/favre limited Schotty's abilities. We've been wondering where the creativity of 06 went for a couple of years now.

this year is the year of truth for schotty.

In the NFL if you do not adjust and force the defense to adjust back you are dead. The fact that Keller is talking about it now worries me. Schotty's job is to get ahead of the curve even if that means taking on Mangini and Farve to do so. A predictable offense is dead and that's what we were at the end of the season.

That said a year under his belt should help his blocking if only because he has a better understanding of the system and the speed of the nfl game.

If he can become even an average blocker we will have ourselves a dynamic player. His abilities in the passing O speak for themselves, he just needs to become an all-around player and I certainly think it's possible.

The best thing about Dustin Keller is that blocking can be coached up...the things that makes him such a sick receiver can't. (Speed, size, broken tackles, etc...)

    Agreed.
I can't believe he actually criticized Keller's dropped pass in public. The guy is a piece of sh*t. Mangini should have blamed himself for that loss, not because a rookie player wasn't able to make a catch. I will actively root against the Browns this year. Also, with the way he treated his rookies this year, I hope that A-hole is thrown out of Cleveland and goes back to being Belichecks ball boy.

Ya no kidding... oh man it was painful to watch.

That said, I am happy that the 49ers might be turning things around and I hope Singletary does well.....just not against us.

That's a little misleading. The reason we slid at the end of the season isn't because defensive coordinators said "Eureka! Dustin can't block; we've got em now!"

But I buy into the Mangini criticism. How did he expect accountability from his players when he displayed none himself? Every loss, every bad play, every blown-up coverage was blamed on the players and their poor execution.

That's why I believe Eric Mangini will never have consistent success as an NFL head coach. The players don't have to love you; there have been plenty of pricks who have coached championship teams. But you better know your shit and install the right packages if you're not going to inspire your troops. "We need to execute better... I'll have to look at the film..." Those are major cop-outs.

^You're right in the sense that the players don't need to love their coach.

Players don't like Belichick, but they sure do respect him. Same with Parcells and coaches of that ilk.

Far cry from the "Won't Block" graphic on NFL Network's draft day coverage.
