I just got back a little while ago from the 11am session. Some thoughts: -Sanchez seemed a little too amped up today and overthrew a lot of his out patterns. That said, he has very nice zip on the ball and can make all the big league throws no problem. He also had some nice completions. -Clemens continued to looked pretty sharp. He threw some really nice fade patterns and they had Red Zone drills and he was throwing some great balls up in the corner of the end zone. Little room to work with and he fit most throws in nicely to the receivers. -Cotchery was by far the best receiver in the morning session. He made a great catch during the Red Zone drill. On the play it looked like there was no way he would get his feet down in bounds yet managed to tiptoe the sideline and keep both feet in bounds. -Obviously there was no contact but Leon Washington looked as fleet footed as ever running off tackle and around defenders. Again no live contact but he looked very quick. -Dustin Keller looks very sharp. He came into minicamp in very good physical shape and made some nice catches on seam routes. Very crisp. -Fans literally are about 15-20 feet from the field where you stand behind a little mesh fence. Great views. -Jay Feely looked very sharp kicking. He put a lot of balls into the end zone on kickoffs so his distance wasn't an issue. Also towards the end of the first session they had him kicking field goals and he was booming them through with no problem from about 40 yards. He only missed one wide left out of the 5 or 6 that he attempted. -Bart Scott was as loud as ever. It's good though as the rest of the team seemed to really feed off his energy. -Clowney had a couple of drops but made a nice catch on an out pattern. -Brad Smith had a couple of drops. He also lined up in the wildcat on one play and Kellen Clemens was split wide. Smith rolled out of the pocket to his right after taking a direct snap and hit Clemens for about a 40 yard completion downfield. -The tempo was really good throughout the session as they would put time on the scoreboard for each drill they were doing. Once the time expired, for example 2 minutes in the red zone offense, the scoreboard would then reset and the players would move to a different part of the two main practice fields for a new drill or a new formation. -Session ended at about 1240 and the players were more than happy to come over and take pictures and autographs. I got one with D Brick, Clowney, Dustin Keller, Danny Woodhead, and a few more. I can't stress how good the players were about signing autographs, jerseys, hats and taking pictures. All in all, a very good experience.
Awesome job JetsNation06. Thanks for the info. Love to hear the fans take on the practices. Especially on the newbie behind Center. What...? hmy:
I was at the early practice also. Seemed like Scott was busting Sanchez's balls with some good natured ribbing. all in all it looks like the players are really enjoying themselves which says a lot about the changes from last season. The defense seems like a pretty tight unit. They seem to really be a TEAM.
I was there as well... I was shocked not only to see the wildcat but see nearly 20% of snaps devoted to it. Leon Washington is the one taking the snap with Brad Smith coming in motion although they also did a few plays with Smith taking the snap. A couple of things I overheard 1) Scott yell at Sanchez "what you looking at Rook" 2) Special teams coach say "dont be a hero, I hate heros"
I was there too. Amazing facility, check it out if you get a chance. Got Rhodes, Sanchez, and Leon's autographs Players were great about it. The team seems so upbeat, lets hope it translates into success on the field
And just a couple of my observations Sanchez did not have a great practice IMO. He was overthrowing receivers, missing targets, and held onto the ball for too long during the 11v11 drills. Bart Scott was also really giving him some smack talk saying "where you looking at rook??" Also, Sanchez looks very short (as has been stated several times). No way he cracks 6 ft by more than an inch or two. Really liked what i saw out of KC today though, he seemed to be pretty on target with all his throws. Observation i made during parts of the wildcat sequence. D'brick actually lined up at RT for a couple plays. I guess instead of pulling him from the left side they just lined him up there so he can get outside quicker for a direct snap play. Interesting. There was a special teams drills invovling onside kicks that was great to see. Westhoff really gets into his players faces and tells them what they are doing wrong, and you can tell the players learn from it b/c the same mistake doesnt happen more than once in a row. Fantastic coach.
