"Gholston was the only player in the top 10 who failed to start a game. He was one of only three top-10 selections to start fewer than eight contests. First-year Jets coach Rex Ryan has lauded Gholston's work in the offseason, and even compared him (some would suggest ill-advisedly) to Baltimore defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs, who had 12 sacks as a rookie in 2003. Gholston might not live up to such lofty comparisons, but he agrees that his second season in the league figures to be a lot more productive for him." For the sake of all Jets fans, let's hope this second season theory holds true for VG.
"he agrees that his second season in the league figures to be a lot more productive for him" Well, it could hardly be less productive. Really hope the Rex Ryan boot in the ass takes full effect for Vernon. He's bordering on membership in the 'Top 10 all time first round busts' list and, for the Jets, that's not an easy list to get on.
Here is all you need to know about Vernon Gholston. All his merchandise is on sale for 50% off at the official Jets team store. Yeah, he's not making this team. No chance. The guy didn't even suit last year. Another fantastically horrible bust in Jets bust history. I have never heard of a top 10 draft pick simply be so bad that he couldn't contribute on special teams, but Ghoston? haha. Yep.
I'm Mike! Nice to meet you. Roster spots are based on talent and ability. Two things this kid apparently has zero of. All last year people were saying "he's only a rookie. he's changing positions". Blah. Guys that were taken in the late rounds at least made the roster down the stretch and got on the field. Gholston? Not so much. He was "in transition" from "bad" to "cut". That's just fact, not opinion or speculation. If management really thought he had a bright future with us, I doubt they'd put his merchandise next to the left over Pennington and Coles jerseys. Well, its not THAT bad as those are going for 9.99. But 40 for a jersey that should be 80 is not a good sign. Gholston - ultra bust. Robertson, Brady, Thomas (both Bryan and Blair)....shall I continue? lol
Jets management doesn't decide where stores put his Jersey. Calling him a bust after one season is stupid. I see you're from Colonie, I'm right down the road near bought corners.
Im confused here Mike. Another words the merchandise department meets with the head coach and gm to ask which players will be cut and then they slash the price with anything their name is on? This is breaking news buddy. Gholston could still be a bust...but he will be on this team this year for all 16 games and playoffs if one cares to dream. Thats the only guarantee.
I live right off of Fuller Road. Yeah, I know its "early" to call him a bust, but when was the last time you saw a player get taken at 6, as a non-skill position no less (meaning not a QB, WR, etc) and not even make the roster? I can't think of one. So yes, he's not "officially" a bust. But the years I was screaming about Robertson being one everybody told me the same thing, and lookie here? He's not even in the league anymore. My gut tells me you won't be seeing this man in green very long....especially since our linebackers are solid to begin with.
Were your screams after he was drafted or after his first year with the Jets. Mike...what you are saying isnt breaking news. After one year in the NFL..if a high draft pick doesnt do well...and lets face it...Gholstons numbers were probably record breaking for a top 10 pick besides special teams....the chances of them living up to their potential do go down. Nothing you are saying is breaking news...except that the merchandise department determines who stays and who gets cut...thats a whopper. This guy does have a ton of raw talent..it will either come out or not. Speculating at this point in time is well...a waste of time.
Yeah, well, I havent been on the board in years and I have no idea what has been talked about recently and what hasn't. I apologize if my banter is "passe". Anyway, obviously the guys at the team store dont make personel decisions. lol. I just thought it was a funny way to trash talk "blip in the radar" Gholston.
His jersey is on sale because he CHANGED HIS NUMBER. He switched to #50 this season. So your reasoning that Gholston's old jersey being put on sale indicates that he will be getting cut one year after he was drafted is beyond retarded. Thanks for the laugh, though.
Ha, well, there it is. A simple explanation to an odd situation! I hadn't heard he changed his number. Anyway, that's what message boards are for my friend. Laughs!
On a complete aside, does NYJUNC still post here? He was a moderator a few years back. I don't see his name on the list anymore?
No problem. And, just to be clear, I was not calling you retarded. I was saying that the hyperbolic conclusion you came to was retarded. I'm sure you have the normal number of chromosomes.
junc was never a mod. he was a major poster till a couple weeks ago, when he decided to leave the forum over a 5 day ban he disagreed with.
I see you are moving up in the world my friend! Good to see you man! I was just trolling around trying to see what the word was on PSLs. I figured I'd drop in and say hello to my old friends. How are you? I see Mack is still around as well? What happened to JUNC?
