between this and the twitter thread contents, its sounds like clemens might be a little intimidated by our defense. Will other team's quarterbacks be, is the question?
Sounded like to me that Clemens didn't want to say too much about the new defense. Or he just doesn't know what the defense IS doing. This really needs to be the year the defense steps it up. We have talent... we have a strong Def minded coach... they might need some time to adjust to the system and gel as a unit, but barring that, after a few season games they have to be knocking some heads. I'm gonna be on the ledge if they aren't.
Guys, it's Clemens. A career backup. He's no Peyton Manning, or Drew Brees. We'll have to wait 'till the season starts to see if we can put pressure on the good ones.
Clemens' shortcoming was always reading defenses. He never could. he never improved on it. Seems like more of the same to me. He'll be a solid back up.
Not much of anything. Then again, we're talking about present QB's that are masters of reading Defensive schemes. Not the past, or rookies who didn't have any experience reading NFL Defense's.
I'm very impressed that our defense is getting such high compliments so early in the offseason practices.
A solid backup can step in and play ok if needed to. If you really think that Clemens can't read defenses then you're saying he'll be a bad backup QB, because reading defenses is one of the most important things a QB does.
whether it be in practice or in live NFL games, he should know how to read a defense. I have a feeling that since he's in the NFL he has some idea as to which defense he's facing, but he's not a QB who is going to pick one apart with ease... its takes a special QB to do that...
He did pick apart the Ravens' d with ease. He's had 8 career starts and was given like 3 seconds from snap till sack.. plenty of time to get some reading done though, right?
thats reading through a progression. Reading a defense can be learned in practice and in the classroom. I want Clemens to start. I'd like the Brees-Rivers scenario. That's best case.
I hope you aren't wishing for Clemens to get traded to another team and then torch the league, and come close to breaking Dan Marinos record lol jk
haha, no - just one good season to make the Jets fun to watch, and then hopefully Sanchez becomes what we expect him to be... its been a while since the Jets had an overly charasmatic QB who kept them in the running year in and year out.
Our defense will be good throughout, it will probably suffer vs. Peyton Manning (week 16, he does this to every defense) and maybe Brady (Brady always torches us at least once and we usually slow him down in the second game).
Uhm, I think you have a bit too much confidence in our defense if you only expect us to struggle against the two best QBs in the game.
