I don't know , do you ? This is my point. TJs contract discussions have become common place knowledge. I don't care how much hes paid , any of the team . Appraisals are done on yearly cycles , not previous years as well , and yes if someone does perform well, I would expect them to be ambitious enough to ask for a raise. If thats what gets them to perform even harder , incentive can work and make people perform alot better. Its obvious that fans are split right down the middle of this one , no fence sitters , we'll have to agree to disagree. By the way , I'm certainly not your mate
Who is going to start at OLB if we get rid of Thomas? Our team is already lacking depth in the front 7 on defense, let's not make it worse.
No one should be upset about jones asking for more money. If we can trade him for edwards I'm all for it. However, let's be real here, if a player does not perform to a teams standard they are asked to restructure or they are cut. Why shouldn't a player ask for more money when they play well?
Because the player has already received the upfront guaranteed money prior to being cut or asked to restructure. The upfront money is the contract. Nothing wrong with asking, it's the withdrawing from the team concept as an implied threat as a negotiating ploy that's the problem.
I like Thomas Jones, but you need to ask yourself what earthly reason the Browns would have for trading for a 31-year-old running back who's actually OLDER than their current starter and wants a new contract to boot. They can do better if they trade Edwards than a malcontent who's on his last legs and has the same essential skillset as their current starting running back anyway. I know Mangini was nice enough to help the Jets out on draft day, but expecting it to happen again now is a little unlikely.
Umm, we are gonna be a smash mouth offense and run the hell out of the ball offense, TJ was the top back in the AFC and the only other full time RB we have on the roster is a 2009 3rd pick. Yeah, that's a great move, why don't we trade Clemens instead of Smith and make Brad the backup QB also. You can't make this stuff up, you just can't. This is almost as bad as the genius that said Mangini had the choice of Ratliff or Clemens in the trade
are you kidding? I don't think there is another OLB in the league that brings a slower edge rush than Thomas--It took us years to realize that Robertson was a wasted pick--too bad it has taken longer to see the same about invisible Bryan.
I would be up for this. I really like T Jones but if we could get Braylon Edwards by moving Jones I'd be all for it
I think Edwards sits tight at the Browns, I believe he gets a big pay day next season if the Browns keep him. I think he'll stay and play for the new contract.
I do not think we can afford Edwards. He's making $4.5 million now and it's rumored he wants a $10 million a year deal. His contract expires after this season. We're at about $12 million under the cap right now. Leon needs a new deal in the $4-$5 million range, Sanchez will have a big contract, we have a probowl center who will need a new contract next season.
Good points. I think we will be ok @WR next season and hope that we get players already here that step up and save us having to draft more than one in next seasons draft , especially if we are down to 3 picks again
Thomas - $550,000 Jones - ($500,000) Smith - $535,000 Net savings $585,000. That's fairly negligible.
What would Edwards cap nber be to us if we traded for him and how much dead money will be off the books after the season? Don't we still have a lot of dead money from Penningtons contract still hitting our cap? That would hopefully open up some money after the season for Mangold, Leon and possibly Braylon if we were to make move.
Yeah we cheered for him game after game, even the season he had 1 touchdown we cheered for him game after game
I believe Edwards cap hit for 2009 would be $4.5 million for us if we traded for him. He may try and force a new deal w/any trade. Do you?
its either this or next year. If memory serves me right, his contract was until 2010. when his dead money ends, it'll be even more cap space along with the increased amount the NFL allows each year.
I have no idea how that works. When did he sign his big contract? I believe it was before the 2003 season and I think it was for seven years so maybe after this season.
